Why so much hype?

Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.

It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.

I don't like to criticize and I really wanted to like this film but it was quite misleading. I am surprised that the other review mentions film quality and the brief music while leaving out the fact that NOTHING happens in this movie AT ALL! The bear on the cover does not make an appearance in the movie. There is no big man-versus-nature drama. **"SPOILER"** It gets a little snowy. The man gets a cold. His grumpy neighbor comes by to see if he is dead and makes him some soup. The end. That is all the action this movie contains. If I was on death row and wanted to make 90 minutes feel like an eternity, I guess this movie might come in handy. But I still get the feeling that halfway through most people would ask if they could just be taken to the chair already.

I have seen many films in my 66 years, but the acting in this one is easily the worst ever! The film quality is nearly equal to the acting. It has horrible contrast and little color. Scenes shot indoors have nearly all the shadows rendered black so all you see is a little of subjects face.On the plus side, it was filmed in beautiful mountains in winter, with deep snow and nice winter scenes. It also has some good wildlife shots. It is too bad the film quality itself couldn't do justice to the wildlife. The background music also drove me nuts. It featured some hillbilly banjo which would never be heard in any self respecting Montana venue.
