The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

I just watched this film, and I came on here to see if I'd missed something that I really should have paid attention to! I really cant help but think 'Geez, that's an hour and 40 minutes of my life that I'll never get back!' I must admit that I think the acting was great, Juliana Moore was amazing and so was Noah Wyle, but what was the point of the sister and the other brother? What was going on with the brothers blonde girlfriend? she was perky and had some personality but it went nowhere... the story was just so slow and - how do I put this? non descript! If you want to see a film with a dysfunctional family, inappropriate relationships, humour and an answer to the questions posed during the movie, then watch The Family Stone...now THAT'S a movie worth seeing.

If ORDINARY PEOPLE is just too pulse-pounding for you, here's the movie for you. Great, great cast tries to breathe life into this turgid story and characters who have tiny, tiny problems magnified by their incredible narcassism. If you want to see all of the movies in the "upper-middle class navel-gazers who self-psycho-analyses every detail of their life" genre, then see this movie but only after you've seen ORDINARY PEOPLE, AMERICAN BEAUTY, ICE STORM and a couple dozen others. Well-intentioned but sleep-inducing boring.

She is quickly becoming our countries Cate Blanchett, which I think is agood thing. This film is a terrific little postcard to dysfunctionalfamilies, well acted and beautifully filmed apparently in Maine. It'sgreat to see Roy Schieder back in action again. Haunting and painful yettotally real, this is a movie to savor. Probably not a great date film, see it with your family and cringe. I only wish that the family lookedmore like a family. If you're going to have Julianne Moore in a film, how about Eric Stolz as her brother and Carol Burnett as her mother?"Myth" is a terrific first film, I look forward to what this directordoes next. (by the way, thank heavens for the independent film channel, where I saw this. I'd never heard of it before, but caught it on thislittle station and I'm renewing my subscription!)

The story (if any) is going nowhere. It's just a bunch of people doing stuff, but nothing worthwhile mentioning, let alone make a movie of it. Don't bother watching this. I read some other comments of people who claimed to be really touched by this story because it reminded them of their own thanksgivings. Well... Djeez, am I glad i was never invited to a thanksgiving party at their place; I would have probably fallen asleep right then and there out of plain boredom. embarrassing when that happens :)
