It's complicated... I really like the directing, acting and writing but, there are issues with the way it's shot that I just can't deny. As much as I love the storytelling and the fantastic performance but, there are also certain scenes that didn't need to exist.

Clever, believable, and super fun to watch. It totally has replay value.

The first must-see film of the year.

One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.

That's what comes to my mind thinking about "Girl in Gold Boots". It is an interesting double-standard, how a movie that partly tries to convince its audience through slightly dressed dancers teaches us about moral. Not that this wouldn't be perfectly achievable but this movie fails in doing so on many levels. We have the naive yet innocent small-town girl that dreams of becoming a star in Hollywood, the righteous yet poor hero and the oily, egocentric villain, the girl gone bad and the gangster boss. These characters are so predictable they could as well serve in an enlightenment comedy. You always know who's about to teach you the lesson. The plot itself is nothing new and probably good enough for a mediocre movie but unfortunately it's not the only unconvincing aspect.Side note: I'm very entertained that robbing a gas station and selling drugs is obviously less a big deal than refusing to serve in the troops. How fortunate that our hero made up his mind. America never fails to surprise me.Music plays quite a role in this film. Although I'm surely not the biggest fan of the soundtrack, I can still imagine that if you're into that kind of songs in general this could make up for some of the weaknesses. What's left to say? There are just so many other movies that really have a story to tell or at least tell this one better. I've seen worse, therefore I won't be down at one star here but there's probably something better you could invest time in.

Yeah, "Girl in Gold Boots" is silly, but, nonetheless, it's entertaining (in a silly sort of way). My ire is reserved for my fellow commentators. I get the impression most "reviewers" on this wonderful site are typically 21 year-old "valley" girls and boys who wouldn't know a decent film if it came up and bit them on their tattooed, hairy asses! It's the same old line: "This is the worst film in the history of the universe, blah, blah, blah." "Awful script, the worst acting I ever seen!" Uh, by what standards are these slackers judging good acting or a literate script?? If you look on most of the posts of the Top 25 Films, you'll rarely see such wholesale deprecations. Not because these films are immune from criticism but because these Neanderthals would never sit through an otherwise edifying motion picture; their equivalent 6th grade educations and terminal ADAH would not permit it! Enough about the sad, pathetic state of America's youth...."Girl in Gold Boots" is a hoot! I have the MST3K version on tape and have watched it innumerable times; each additional viewing reveals new yuks. It's full of hilarious "curiosities", but hey - these flubbs make the movie even more endearing. For Christ's sake, it's a late-60's drive-in movie! Its "Raison D'tre" (and yes, I'm guilty of pretentiousness with the miss-spelled French!)) is "T&A" - think the "jiggle" in Charlie's Angels". What did you expect - "Casablanca"? "Citizen Kane"? Love it for what it is! For starters, the soundtrack does not jive with the "beat" of the dancers nor the lips of the singers. Of course, Buzz's teleporting moment is classic! The "Pretty Mind" sequence will never cease to crack up the room. But lest you slackers accuse me of echoing your feeble criticisms, let me state that all the gaffs in this flick are what make it so entertaining (Mike and Bots help as well!). And Greg in San Diego: If you think Michelle is unattractive, you gotta be either blind or queer as a clutchpurse!! She's a dead ringer for Angelina and has an even better body (granted, she has the rhythm of a string-haltered horse). Ditto - Joannie.Trivia Alert: Leo (Mark Herron) was Judy Garland's 4th of five husbands!! Who da Thunk It???!! Also, what I wouldn't give for Buzz's awesome Oldsmobile convertible!!

If Offbeat Cinema hasn't grabbed Girl In Gold Boots for one of their late evenings roasts than they are not doing their job in finding some of the worst cinema put on celluloid. This must have been a great second feature in the drive-ins in 1968 when people were getting down to something else.On That Seventies Show one of the funniest lines I ever heard was from pretty and vapid Mila Kunis who said that nothing was ever going to get in the way of her ambition to becoming a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader. That same sense of purpose exists with our leading lady Leslie McRae who dreams of going out to Los Angeles and becoming a go-go dancer. It certainly beat slinging hash in that New Mexico diner with her drunken father. When Tom Pace comes into her life saying he's going to LA where his sister does just that, McRae hears enough and jumps in the car with him. Along the way they pickup another wandering stranger Jody Daniels and the three of them are off to Tinseltown after Pace robs a filling station. They find Pace's sister, a drugged out dancer working for club owner Mark Herron who's got his fingers in a lot enterprises, mostly illegal. Pace doesn't really care about his sister, he just sees opportunity for himself and McRae gets hired as a new dancer and Daniels becomes a club janitor. Herron indicates that Daniels could do better for himself with him and you can take that any number of ways. The film is one sorry mess, lousy sound recording, inane plot, totally bogus climax to this piece of drama. If you recognize the name of Mark Herron it will be because you remember who was Judy Garland's fourth husband. Mark wasn't doing that great before he married Judy, and when she cut him loose this was the best his meager talent could get.Oh and the music is bad Sixties music and the acting on the level of some of my grade school plays. When will Offbeat Cinema be showing Girl In Gold Boots?

This movie I first saw via the MST3000 series, and have to admit, it's not the worst movie they ever have spoofed. However, I agree with the person who wrote about the movie being a combined story/plot. It starts out a bit fuzzy.....Buz's foiled attempts at robbing "Eat" were not clear to me until I'd seen the movie a few times.....and I wasn't sure exactly where the Critter guy fit in. After a few scenes, it started to piece itself together, and for a 1969 movie, wasn't all that bad......until the movie became less focused on Michele's dream to become a dancer, and more focused on Buz's drug-dealing. That's where the film splits in two. I was content with the first half, but bored to tears in the second. Of course, MST3000 certainly helped plod it along, and I probably wouldn't have watched the movie otherwise, but none-the-less.....I would say the movie had several different writers who couldn't agree on one story-line!
