This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.

It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.

Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.

Inside 'Manhunter' (2001) *** (out of 4)Actors William Petersen, Brian Cox, Joan Allen and Tom Noonan are interviewed in this 17 minute featurette that was on the original Anchor Bay release of MANHUNTER. Various subjects are covered including the casting, shooting the movie, working with director Michael Mann and the film's release. If you're a fan of MANHUNTER then you'll certainly enjoy hearing these stories, although at just seventeen minutes the featurette does feel a bit rushed. The highlight is the stuff dealing with Mann's intensity, which makes it sound like he was just a few notes shy of being like Stanley Kubrick. All four actors do a very good job telling their stories and they certainly come across very entertaining. It's also nice getting to hear the actors talk about the film after the success of THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS.
