If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
This is a great documentary and well worth the watch if you're involved in emergency services or have an interest in this lifestyle and career.I had no idea that Steve was a former FDNY firefighter and he brought a truly touching insight to the role interlaced with his own experiences on the job. This was made even better because he had a true friendship that really shined through as he interacted with the FDNY members. It wasn't a typical, sterile, "from an outsider" perspective. Steve had a real camaraderie with each person he interviewed.Well done to Steve and the team....
