The Memories of Angels (2008)
Montreal of another time is reborn into screen through images from a hundred of movies and shorts produced by the National Film Board of Canada while at its first four decades of existence. Port activities, musical shows, presence of Church, labors life, hockey fever and the best years of "Red Light" are few of the chapters of this collective family album.

Good story, Not enough for a whole film
In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
Worth seeing just to witness how winsome it is.
On the contrary to the other review, this is a beautiful perhaps even artistic slice of Canadian life from an era gone by. For anyone who grew up in Canada in the fifties or sixties, this is an amazing collage of life from that time. Almost every scene reminds me of somewhere sometime from my childhood. Its doesn't matter that the films are not related, there is no plot, it just transitions nicely from scene to scene and the sounds and music flow, almost like a dream. But if you didn't grow up in that time and place, not sure if its of interest to all others.
The Memories of Angels is sold as some kind of love-letter of Montreal. To me it is nothing more than a collection of archives spliced together without any kind of continuity, purpose, or reason. All the user can do is watch what seems like 10 hours of clips of bits of pieces of Montreal and recognize a couple of buildings here and there. There's no context at all, and it certainly does not evoke any kind of warm feelings or nostalgia about what a great city Montreal really is. This is not art, this is not movie making. This is slapping together bits of film and calling it a "movie" without any kind artistic vision of any kind. BORING AND POINTLESS. Don't waste your time.
