The Abolitionists takes place during some of the most violent and contentious decades in American history. It reveals how the movement shaped history by exposing the fatal flaw of a republic founded on liberty for some and bondage for others. In the face of personal risks—beating, imprisonment, even death—abolitionists held fast to their cause, laying the civil rights groundwork for the future and raising weighty constitutional and moral questions that are still with us today.

I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
It's funny watching the elements come together in this complicated scam. On one hand, the set-up isn't quite as complex as it seems, but there's an easy sense of fun in every exchange.
It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.
One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
