I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

Made in Sweden in 1995, 3 years after Peter Jackson's Braindead, it surely shows were the director (Anders Jacobsson) took his inspiration. It was his first film but it doesn't show. He uses his camera in the same way Peter did, wide angle shots and close ups also being used with wide angle. In the first 5 minutes I already smiled an laughed a lot with it. Not because it's bad but because it's of course a dark comedy. It's all about a notorious editor, Edward, being transferred from 'normal' flicks to the sex and gore department. He doesn't like those gory flicks and asks to get his old job back, refused, he edits other films and slowly becomes bonkers. There is some nudity in it but the main fact is the gore. The blood flows frequently, and sometimes becomes really gory, especially in the final. It's also an ode to the horrors from the 80's. Try to see all those posters on the wall, See Halloween playing on a television. I guess Anders also liked Evil Dead. The use of a demon, seen from the camera, moving quickly through some corridors with that typical Evil dead sound. The demonic face of the nurse, another example from Evil Dead. Really enjoyable.

Evil Ed is a Swedish film about a man named Ed (of course)and his collapse into total madness after editing a series of B horror films known as "The Loose Limbs" series. Ed becomes so mad that he thinks he's seeing demons and monsters but in reality they are people he knows and people that are close to him, such as his wife and daughter.I first saw this movie back in 1998 and was baffled by what I had seen. To this day, this movie I consider to be one of the darkest comedies out there. As the movie is almost slapstick funny with its gore scenes there are still a few creepy moments. This is a cool flick but don't expect anything marvelous. It's simply just a fun movie that is good to show some of your friends for some laughs. 8/10 stars

~Spoiler~Do you ever get the feeling that you've seen all the great horror movies? Well I often feel this way and am constantly on the lookout for that one movie I have never seen. Evil Ed is the one I never gave a chance. I finally did. What a surprise. It was unbelievable witty, the gore is glorious, and the acting is as campy as it gets. What an underrated addition to the horror genre. Some say that it rips off a lot of other horror greats, like Evil Dead II, Gremlins, Night of the Living Dead, and maybe even Legend. It would be considered a rip off if it wasn't paying homage to these films. The plot, which is great, also gives it license to do this. Ed is this average dork who is given the job of editing all of these horrendous slasher/splatter movies. He eventually goes crazy which is a great spoof on the media's thoughts on violence in movies. And of course he sees monsters and things that aren't really there and he thinks that it has become his job to stop these evil filmmakers and their movies. It starts out a little slow and stupid, but when Ed loses it, you instantly forget the movies earlier sins. You definitely have to give this movie a chance before you just pass it over. If you love the Evil Dead series, then you should love Evil Ed because there are so many references to Evil Dead II it's laughable. A great foreign splatter movie. Note for genre buffs: Bill Moseley (Chop Top from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2) does some nice voiceovers.
