If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.

The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.

It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

It would seem a great majority of reviewers seek only to point out all possible flaws with any given film. Wedding for Bella/My Bread, My Sweet is no exception. Here in the 21st century we are all too ready to give the blue ribbon to the production with the most CGI, the most "flash", and to ignore (or badmouth) those that are more on the "homegrown" side. I agree, some of the roles are somewhat stereotypical, but stereotypes come from somewhere, no? Must every film be oozing with originality to gain our applause? The motive of the main character, Dominic, is enough to fuel the humor and tension in the film, mainly, marrying a girl for the sake of her mother's happiness. And no, one could not expect the chemistry between Dominic and Luca to be extraordinarily "passionate", based on the original premise that he wasn't genuinely interested in her in the first place. The filming is also not state-of-the-art, true, but if anything, I believe it speaks to the down-to-earth, gritty character of the city of Pittsburgh. Whether intentional or not, it succeeds in portraying a multi-layered local flavor, a quality most modern films leave by the wayside for the sake of spectacle. My advice is to take the film for what it is, and not as a mere comparison to higher rated/higher budgeted films.

I really cannot fathom who these people are writing the glorious comments. The movie was banal at best, partially unbearable for the bad acting. ( The retarded brother made me scream, and if I had to look into Bella's eyes one more time, I would've rather gone blind ) The cuts were horrible, and the whole movie and script didn't make much sense anyway. What was the daughter doing in Mexico now? working as a prostitute maybe? Yeah, and I still have to find a high powered VP executive who is casually dropping in on meetings, and baking bread anyway, haha wish I had this guy's job with the paycheck and all the free time. The Italian couple was laughably pseudo-realistic, the daughter remained 2 dimensional, and the rest of the cast seemed more like cast-offs from a highschool drama lab. I watched it till the end just in the faint hope, it would get any better - NOT!

Scott Baio is excellent in this movie as are all the cast members. I was blown away by how real the acting was and felt like a part of the family. It made me laugh and cry. I had to watch it twice before returning the rental. I liked it much more than My Big Fat Greek Wedding which it is compared to in the promos. The story centers around three brothers who run an Italian pastry shop leased from an older Italian couple who live above the shop. The older couple have become surrogate parents for the three brothers and their love for one another is a testament to lasting marriage. Baio's character makes a big personal sacrifice to fulfill a wish for his surrogate mother. You will love the authenticity of this film.

i was willing to bet money scott baio would've directed this himself, so much it seemed like an actor's 'personal project'. it's written so lousy it's unbelievable, the acting is poor, the characters even more stupendous. kristin minter, john seitz and shuler hensley all fail badly and scott baio is so self-involved it's sickening. rosemary prinz is pretty good, and about the only good thing in this pic. the aim of the movie is to shamelessly milk tears from the gullible audience. thankfully people are not as stupid as the creators of this film obviously thought...not everyone falls for it, and they shouldn't either, it's so obvious. movie making like this is just despicable. me no like.
