Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.

The film may be flawed, but its message is not.

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

Oh, man. Anyone who ever went to film school has seen footage as bad as this. During the viewing of your classmates' first film class assignments. Mink (I love how he's too cool for school and doesn't want people to know his real name) truly has no clue where to put the camera, or what to tell his "actors", or what directing means. One of my favorites is a dialogue scene outside someone's apartment or store, I think, and some lady keeps sweeping with a broom all over the place while two other people exchange painfully bad dialogue. Never mind that there's no dirt on the ground to sweep (1) or that her way of sweeping would've spread the dirt all over the place had there been any (2), or the fact that the blocking is so uninspired that most of the time you must wonder who's speaking, and more importantly, why (3). So you succumb to the horror, which is SO painful to watch, the only way to cope with the level of badness is to laugh uncontrollably at the horrific performances by (of course) rappers (as we all know, when you can string rhymes together, clearly you're more than qualified to act in motion pictures, too. No more training is required). My recommendation: (w)rap this piece of crap and put it where it belongs: in the garbage.

I'm a person who really likes movies and really likes rap. I saw this movie had Xzibit in it so I gave it a shot. This was by far the most horrible movie I've ever seen....worse than Annaconda. For god sake...the movie has glitches IN THE MOVIE, it's not the disc. The blood looks like hot candle wax...and let's not forget about the scene where Busta Rhymes shoots a camera and it blows up as if it was a crate of C4. Do yourself a favor, go see Reservoir Dogs, Snatch, Fight Club, Boondock Saints, or some other good movie. And if you want to see a good black gangster movie with rappers in it...see Paid in Full...that's a great movie with a good cast and fantastic acting. Hope this was helpful...wish I could have read something like this before I went to see this movie.

The adventures of a certain hero Pope hits it off in a pathetic Equlibrium style (not even Neo) and flow toward the so predictable. I guess this is the movie about the bad white guy up to a point, then comes the story of the bad black guy, followed by the revenge of the hero - all action packed in the adventures of this Pope dude. It's really bad and clichéd - script wise - and the one name director makes it seem even less original and inciting. The best thing this movie does is offer some great insight to the characters...especially the female ones. Its hardly possible to count all the things which are wrong in the film (absurd and pointless characters, to name just one), so I won't even bother trying. In my twisted mind I came to compare it to the "rap style" - a style I am not really fond of: it's contradictory and violent, while trying to convey its "message". It proves that rap should restrain to its three minute long songs, rather than one and a half hour long movies. The material simply doesn't suffice.

A slow-paced but "noirish" action comedy, Bustah Rhymes is perfect as a tough guy who unwittingly goes to collect his inheritance and ends up in a fight with a local sheriff. This is a whole lot better than the predictable, hip hop movie formulaic drivel that Hollywood insists on releasing. Xzibit and Spliff are good comic relief as his sidekicks that get greedy. Bubba"Hightower"Smith shows up as a talkative Hotel manager. This quirky tale loosely interlaced around a western has a weird funeral director and ellen cleghorn as a sidewalk psychic "Mistress Cleo" type. This was a very offbeat film which really didn't go anywhere but was still interesting and amusing. I appreciated all the cool action with the dual pistols Joshua pope had. Wyclef jean is very good as the guitar playing prophet and narrator of Pope. The film had good energy and cool art direction, well worth watching.
