24/7 is an American reality television series that follows sportsmen, and sporting organizations, for a period of weeks in the lead-up to a major sporting event. The show premiered with episodes featuring pairs of boxers as they prepare for their upcoming boxing match against one another. More recently it has expanded to other sport rivalries as well with NASCAR and the rivalry leading up to the 2011 NHL Winter Classic. Each edition of the show is generally split up into three to four episodes, and is narrated by Liev Schreiber.

The Penguins and Capitals fight for first place in their respective Eastern Conference divisions. Following a home game versus Anaheim, the Caps head to Boston and Ottawa. Meanwhile, the Pens visit their in-state rivals in Philadelphia for a significant Atlantic Division showdown before hosting the New York Rangers and Phoenix Coyotes.

HBO cameras follow the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals around their daily activities as they move closer the Winter Classic outdoor hockey game on January 1st. Each teams' demeanor starkly contrast with each other. The Penguins are having fun and enjoying their work as they are in the middle of a long winning streak while the capitals are shown as downtrodden and depressed while they suffer through their longest losing streak in years.
