Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.

A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

You know, when I see a film where someone chops someone else's hand off, I expect to see an 18 certificate otherwise I think I'm within my rights to be a little peeved. Our lead however and seemed only momentarily phased after being forced to do so by a gang leader that's decided to make him a fully fledged member of his crew. This is nothing to compared to the continued stupidity that follows after he decides to 'cut' the drugs supplied by this same gang leader maniac so he can double his profit from the sales.Oh yes, not only is our lead(I won't call him hero) incapable of making rational decisions when pressured, that after all would be forgivable, but even in his daily life he's a self mutilating psycho. Only a fully paid up member of the uncommitted mentally deranged would cut away an 8cm diameter portion of the muscle from a shoulder to fit a toroidal transformer. Why? Well, so he can perform magic tricks of course! (don't ask, seriously don't ask) His behaviour is a catalogue of ridiculous decisions from start to finish, but after half way you just accept his IQ would make Elmer Fudd look like Albert Einstein on move on.The whole technology to do magic tricks is ridiculous. It would have been more palatable if they had left the mad science out of this film and just left him as a magician. Half the stuff he does is every day magic and the other half I've seen from either seen 'Dynamo' or 'Penn and Teller'. It's a little like they couldn't decide which way to go on the fact versus fantasy decision so made a preposterous compromise. It's a total farce. They didn't give him super powers so he could do impossible miraculous things outside the laws of physics, instead they give him bogus technology so he could do impossible miraculous things outside the laws of physics.This really is a 'paint by numbers' production anyway; the big bro looking after little sister because the parents are dead, the I'm a good guy and do right by people, and only sell drugs to decent folk with good jobs so they can party; the abused girlfriend, the list of clichés is endless so I'll not go on. Its a very lazy effort that smacks of shortcuts, a lack of original thinking and lazy writing. The sad thing is , this had a lot of potential. But, I suppose that is pretty much true of most things in life.You know I'm not going to continue because I just don't think this film is worth the effort. I will simply state that I don't recommend it... just in case there is any doubt.

I read others reviews before watching and found the more positive reviews to be about right but to be fair, both myself and my Son enjoyed it. I believe that for the small amount of improving that this Film could of done with it still deserves at least an 8 for so many reasons... the Acting believable, the Story is gripping, the magic is awesome, It even made me smile and the suspense in some parts is quite intense. I will recommend to others and would watch again.. This is just one of those films that could of been better but still delivered a satisfying view....

Didn't know a thing about this movie going it, except that it involved some magic (ala Now you see me)While there are some magic, it doesn't even try to base it on actual magic. all camera tricks & editing that can't be done in real life. And the story doesn't really make sense if you look into it.***SPOILERS***This supposedly smart 'engineer' implanted an electromagnet in his arm that looks like he got in a car accident. Then later on, tells us that there are fine wires running down his arms to his hands UNDER his skin (with no scars). REALLY?! You got an infected car wreck on your upper arm and then tell us that you have wires surgically implanted in the rest of your arm with no scars, all by yourself with one hand?! And the purpose of this is to levitate/move metallic object. Again, none of the writers seem like they took basic science. Magnets has no effect on precious metals or LEAD! So you can't levitate a silver ring, rip out gold teeth or stop lead bullets. Also, why make him this smart (seemly moral) dude if you're just gonna have him deal drugs, steal from his friends and dealer. If he really is smart and made an electromagnet implant that work, why doesn't he just sell it. And no bs about magic secret, a lot of magician sell their tricks & props for profit. And the whole reason he got into magic was to find out one trick, which that magician told for free. There is nothing in this movie that shows he's as smart as the movie claims. Everything in this movie makes him out to be a hustling hood rat (with a heart, but only for 3 people) who hates being a hustling hood rat. That's like saying peter parker hate being spider-man when he could be rich selling his web fluid.Lastly, on him owing his dealer money. He needed 9 grand, why not sell his car? He could've easily gotten 10k for it. Again, this dude is suppose to be smart?!
