While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.

There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.

First , I saw the trailer on TV and then I decided to watch it because It attracted me And having Sam Hemsworth and Dwayne Johnson as leading role made me excited Well, at the beginning of the movie , everything was going on the right way, but not for long The idea was really good and had a high potentiel to make this movie a good movie ... But then , it began to get worse and worse , boring random stuff happens , characters felt like fools not noticing anything and being unrealistic making crazy choices And suddenly , the movie ended just like that with no action scenes and nothing I felt really disappointed after watching this movie because it had a good beginning but they messed it up and didn't do anything rationnal

Here's a piece of garbage that managed to recruit the Rock; Liam Hemsworth; Paul Ben-Victor; Jerry Ferrara; Michael Rispoli; & Emma Roberts into thinking this was going to be something cool maybe like a Pulp Fiction or something. NOT!!!Where do I begin? I mean the only reason this gets a 1 is because of these box office stars where some come from billion $ franchises. They thought hey gonna make a small independent and will be a cool one. Anyway, for openers with the budget they had WHY WOULD you go to the 3- different disparate locations like New Orleans, Toronto and Queens where they should have focused on ONLY? Continuity in this things is a mess. Oh and in a move of desperation they would use exterior subway train shots to advance the narrative as though oh we shot that in Toronto so now to fool our audience let's show them a subway train so they think it's NYC. When Ben-Victor's character gets fired from his job and seems destitute and a Greek from the old country ISO of us seeing him listening to some rebetika he just sulks. Doesn't even play the koboloi! Then sorry but Liam huge miscast there as a Greek guy from Queens. Yeah he has box office draw but did not pull off this role. The Rock barely used and not well taken advantage of his talents. The "Eddie" character was the worst of them all. Yeah I get what his character was about but was so poorly played by Angarano that if I was them would have cut that role off altogether. Then Jerry Ferrara what the hell was he thinking? Absolute abomination of a flick that was going to give us some insights on the "Greek Mafia" only to end being a farce and nothing else. Or my favorite "based on a true story." Too bad a zero not available here.

Chris Potamitis (Liam Hemsworth) has always wanted to be a cop, but as is the case with most recent graduates, he's on a waiting list, so he takes a job as an armored truck guard. Almost as soon as he starts working there, Chris is scared by the amount of money and the lack of security at the place he's working, and stupidly mentions that fact to his best friend, Eddie (Michael Angarano). Eddie immediately plans and executes a robbery, which both the police and Chris's mobbed up bosses thinks he's involved in. Now his life is endangered on three separate fronts and he's not sure where to turn. Empire State is a tremendous thriller based on a true story, written and directed by Dito Montiel, and if you don't know the name, you should. Montiel made a stunning debut, telling his life story in the film, A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints, in 2006 (On of our Must See Movies). Montiel's career has been all up hill from there. He grew up on the streets of Brooklyn, and all his films are based on real life stories from the neighborhood, that were forgotten a long time ago. With Montiel films you're always guaranteed a few things, a well written story, a tremendous cast, lots of action, and lots of eye candy, and Empire State does not disappoint. This film has everything from the insider angle, to the mob, inside the police investigation, and of course Liam Hemsworth at the center of it all. Big brother Chris may get all the recognition in Hollywood, for being the all-mighty Thor, but baby brother Liam, really does get better and better in every film I see him in. Empire State has a little bit of everything, it is well written, and comes at you from so many different angles. This film was so much fun to watch, it's the kind of thing you want to see more than once, and it's streaming so if you're not doing anything right now, go check it out!

For a heist movie, then "Empire State" wasn't particularly outstanding. Its storyline was fairly mediocre and predictable. That being said, then I will say that the actors in the movie were doing good jobs with their given roles, especially Michael Angarano (played Eddie) - as much as you come to hate his character - but he really performed well."Empire State" wasn't particularly much of a thrill ride. The movie trotted on in a fairly monotone pace, with the occasional up and down in pace here and there. But there weren't any grand climax to anything that the movie was building up.Personally I can't really claim to be overly thrilled or captivated by the whole heist genre of movies. But I have seen some, of course, and there are some heist movies out there that far outshines "Empire State" by a long mile.Perhaps "Empire State" is more interesting if you actually had any knowledge of the events that the movie was based upon, which I didn't. So all in all, then "Empire State" was a mediocre experience that failed to stand out and leave a lasting impression.
