Down a seedy city street in her neighborhood, young Enola Penny is obsessed with what appears to be a long abandoned theatre. One night, she sees that the front door is slightly ajar and impulsively decides to sneak inside. But there in the dark, decrepit auditorium, a show unlike any other unfolds before her eyes. Its host is an eerie human puppet named Peg Poett who will introduce Penny to six tales of the bizarre: A couple traveling in a remote part of the French Pyrenees cross paths with a lustful witch; A paranoid lover faces the wrath of a partner who has been pushed to her limit; The Freudian dreams of an unfaithful husband blur the lines between fantasy and reality; The horrors of the real world are interpreted through the mind of a child; A woman addicted to other people's memories gets her fix through the vitreous fluid of her victims' eyeballs; And a perverse obsession with sweets turns sour for a couple in too deep.

It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.

Watched this when I was drunk and this is the review I wrote " imo:Mother of Toads (Richard Stanley): 7 I Love You (Buddy Giovinazzno): 8 Wet Dreams (Tom Savini): 6 The Accident (Douglas Buck): 4 Vision Stains (Karim Hussain): 5 Sweets (David Gregory): 6 framing in between segments aka Theatre Guginol (Jeremy Kasten): 5"Not very in depth but I guess you get the general idea. Unlike other reviewers, I was not a huge fan of Theatre Guginol. It reminded me of silly 00's horror and I'm just really not the biggest fan. Being a fan of both Lovecraft and Clark Ashton Smith, Mother of Toads was a talk treat for me. Just recently discovered Richard Stanley and I've got to say I enjoy him. At times the whole thing felt a bit cheap or silly but overall it was very enjoyable. The second segment, I Love you, reminded of the roles of the husband and wife in Zulawski's Possession. Maybe not as cerebral but it had just about as much blood. Wet Dreams was interesting although slightly confusing. Tom Savini, probably the biggest name in horror special FX, both directed and acted in this one. Wonderfully, I might add. First directing effort I've seen by him, but I hope it won't be the last. The Accident was slow and had an air of the depressive along with an artistic flourish that resulted in it serving as rather something of speed bump. It may have worked better as a stand alone film because here it just killed the mood. I was also not as enthralled by Vision Stains as other reviewers have seemed to be. It certainly had an original story but it ended disappointingly and I just couldn't get myself into it. Sweets seemed to be something of a sort of surreal metaphor that addressed many different issues in a roundabout way, as well as keeping up with the general mood of the rest of the film despite the higher level of intellectualism. I did enjoy it, although I found some of it a bit silly and think it lacked full cohesiveness. Overall Theatre Bizarre is probably one of the better horror anthologies I've seen in a long time. According to my individual ratings it just barely averages out to a 6 but I feel like overall it was probably a solid 6, maybe even a 7.

1. The mother of toads : a couple that are on a trip and has lost on their way reaches into a village and meets a old witch that can change her look in an attractive one and the man falls for her spells.2. I love you : an married couple has problems because of the excessive attention of the husband and one day after his wife comes back home after a trip to her sisters has an ultimate intimate relation with her husband who is ready to confess that he was unfaithful and is about to leave him for another man but it will not be easy to pass on his envy.3. Wet Dreams : a man has dreams with a beautiful woman and in the process he kicks her girlfriend in the nose. He searches for help to a doctor about this condition only to find that he is now trapped in the dream of the woman who lives with but it turned out to be a real nightmare from witch he can't wake up and the intentions of his girl are not too nice.4. The accident : a mother along with her daughter are witnesses of a motorcycle accident and she is about to answer all of the little girl's questions witch are not suitable for a girl at her age. 5. Vision stains : a girl has the ability to see the life of another one but only if she makes a shot into the woman's eye and what she extracts she must inject in hers. Sweets : a couple experiences some troubles in their relation because the girl doesn't feel do much compassion than her boyfriend. She takes part at a club with a bunch of foodies that appear that can eat everything and believed or not her partner is next on the menu. THE END.The movie presents short stories that has elements of horror, the torture, the blood are not missing also many of them have sexual references witch makes somehow different from any other movies with short film in it. Of course there are displaced, the last one is meaningless, all the persons in there are eating like pigs but ironic they are all skinny and talks about diet and a long pause on their routine. But the purpose is too scare the audience and not to make them think about this errors. Shortly a weird horror movie and as odd as it was and sounds I could watch it again.

This movie sat in our cabinet for about 6 months. Tonight, we decided to watch it..my husband, 20 year old son, and I.I swear, there was NOTHING on TV worth watching, so we decided to finally take it out, and give it a try.We watched the entire movie, beginning to end. Nobody in the room said anything. I started thinking about how we COULD have been watching old reruns of Benson, instead. Horror movies are one of my favorite genres...so it's not like I didn't 'get it'.This movie will follow you around for the rest of your life like a very bad smell. When it popped out of the DVD player, my husband removed it from the tray, we all looked at each other, and agreed...we threw it in the garbage. But it's still in the house, because there's no garbage pick-up tomorrow. :( That's the REAL horror.

This is one to avoid IMO. It's a compilation of different strange stories joined together by the main one. The first short story was okay and scary in a H.P. Lovecraft way. They are also R-rated, some contain adult situations and nudity besides excessive gore. We had to stop about half way through the film. The short stories were progressively gory and depressing as the movie went on. I especially didn't care for the scene with the motorcycle accident and the little girl who witnesses it. They made it a point to dwell on the deer that was involved in the accident and it's suffering. My advice is to avoid this flick, if you think you have an opinion in any way similar to mine about graphic gore and depressing stories.
