Porter Wren is a Manhattan tabloid writer with an appetite for scandal. On the beat he sells murder, tragedy, and anything that passes for the truth. At home, he is a dedicated husband and father. I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.

I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.

This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.

A different kind of love story. If you want to call this one a love story, because it's obviously more of mystery thriller with a bit of detective work thrown in, almost by accident - which is apt if you think about the breakout case and also the inciting incident. Brody may have been in the Pianist and other movies that can be described to have a higher quality, but he also did one with Argento when he lost his touch. So while this isn't really top notch, it does what it says on the cover. Is that enough for you to watch? Can you feel the temptation and the sparks between the blonde Femme Fatale (you may have seen her prominently in a TV show) and Brody's character? And should he listen to his heart or rather ... I mean Jennifer Beals is waiting at home for him. You can see certain things a mile away, but certain things may just be revealed as the movie flows along. Decent enough

I haven't read the book so I don't know how book and film compare but the beginning of the book (Look Inside courtesy of Amazon Kindle) is classic film noir.So the movie starts film noir and continues film noir although it sags a bit in the middle and the plot gets a bit muddy (maybe I blinked) towards the end but you still get the gist. (Again, I have to caution against letting writers direct their own material although this is by no means as bad as it could have been.) It's a super, interwoven tale of crime, mystery and drama and any fan of any of those genres should enjoy it.You might wonder why they changed the name from the novel's Manhatan Nocturne - unless it's because they thought American's wouldn't know what a 'nocturne' is! Other than that, there's no benefit and it loses a little poetic element...Brody is superb (as ever!), a terrific performance, Strahovsky is incredibly sexy and superb as the femme fatale (you know where it's going to go) and Berkof does his usual villain with aplomb. Jennifer Beals has a disappointingly small, almost throw-away part. But the film as a whole is eminently watchable and a must for noir fans. You might get the feeling that it could have been a bit tighter and the expo a bit clearer but it's still a good example of the genre and highly recommended!

A well-known reporter becomes involved with a mysterious and seductive woman while trying to find the truth about her husband's death. Manhattan Nocturne is by no means a perfect film but seeing a naked Yvonne Strahovski is pretty good i'll tell you that but honestly the ending and this whole backstory with Caroline helped me appreciate the film a bit more her boyfriend Simon (Campbell Scott) was a jerk to her he seriously had issues but the film also works with this whole Crime, Thriller noir type of movie it really is although it does have it's issue like that weird sex scene or that awkward story behind Hobbs and the overall film is at times over the top with the acting or it's characters but honestly i enjoyed it mostly because of the ending 7/10.

This very dark and erotic noir just contained too many incredulous and far-fetched plot elements for my liking. There seemed to be a better movie lurking within this one that never really came together and emerged.Adrien Brody is fine as Porter Wren, the poker-faced investigative reporter and columnist for a daily New York City newspaper. When he's unable to resist the seductive advances of the gorgeous Caroline Crowley, portrayed by Yvonne Strahovski, Porter will find himself being led down a path of dark and demented secrets that will cost him dearly. All in all, this movie, written and directed by Brian DeCubellis, based on a novel by Colin Harrison, had enough intrigue to keep me interested for the most part, but it seemed to fall apart as it progressed, with the filmmaker choosing shock value over plot elements that might have enhanced the story.
