It's complicated... I really like the directing, acting and writing but, there are issues with the way it's shot that I just can't deny. As much as I love the storytelling and the fantastic performance but, there are also certain scenes that didn't need to exist.

The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

After a series of strange attacks, a small village finds that they've been beset by a group of vicious werewolves intent on killing everyone in the village and must rely on a group of skilled hunters to stop them before the entire village is killed. This here was quite the fun and enjoyable werewolf effort. This one really gets quite fun with the old-school tone and feel here with the Gothic atmosphere running throughout this one making for a rather enjoyable and truly fun style throughout this. Setting everything around the village is a great part by allowing for the old-time buildings and setting to get utilized effectively which manages to mesh quite well with the forest setting so commonly featured here, and along with the rolling fog banks and the howls out in the distance really makes this one truly chilling throughout here. Even more impressive is the fine action here which is quite a blast to get this kind of fun throughout here, as the stellar opening attack on the family in the cottage is quite exciting getting along, Other big scenes here include the strong ambush of the poachers being attacked while out in the forest and the trap being set at the abandoned mission where the werewolf finally gets the encounter with the hunters as they attempt to trap him inside in a flurry of fine action. It makes for a strong set-up into the finale where there's a ton of action taking this with the transformation in front of the crowd and then chasing the two into the underground catacombs which is a fine and incredibly fun brawl where both sides get in plenty of control throughout and the big resolution is a nice addition ending this on a high-note. While some of the small attacks throughout here give off some additional gore along with the other great encounters also adding some fun, there's enough here to make for some good times. About the only real downside to this one comes from the ridiculous and hardly believable CGI throughout here for the creature, which really ruins a lot of the scenes here with this one by taking the viewer out of the scene with the obvious fakeness of the main creature. Along with some minor stumbling here with the nonsensical amount of time spent showing the residents arguing with each other over the werewolf's identity, there's a lot more to like here to hold off the flaws.Rated R: Graphic Violence and Language.

Interesting and entertaining werewolf motion picture, better than what the general video consumers say, with a fine introduction "a la Hammer", which evokes Guy Endore's "The Werewolf of Paris", and gives a new twist to the old tale of the man-wolf monster. Partially damaged by a too melodramatic plot point that triggers the final act (not the revelation of the werewolf's identity, but of those behind its evolution), by actors who deliver their English lines with a slangy American diction that clash with the European tale and locations, and a very bad performance by Ed Quinn, the plot was handled with a firm hand and a fine visual sense by director Louis Morneau, balancing the development of the horror story and the action scenes. Maybe the special effects reveal the small budget of a B film (according to standards --it must be said-- exclusive to massive productions in which a big part of the money is spent in expensive stimulants), but in general the production values are considerable high. Apart from all this, producers should start reflecting on what they have turned the werewolf film into… Now the creature simply looks like a big, bad wolf with great strength, and it has been deprived of its essential monstrosity: the mixture of man and animal features in a body beyond description. From the Lon Chaney Jr. creature, it did not develop in that direction, but evolved into a four-legged thing with big teeth.

After reading some of the reviews, I was convinced that I would enjoy this film. I wasn't wrong at all. The characters were fun and interesting and the story was quite good at keeping me guessing all the way until the final act when yet another surprise was sprung upon the viewers. The scenery is quite good and the music compliments the movie. The actors all pull their weight and their are some really good fight scenes. I will be adding this to my collection. If I had seen this in a theater, I would have been happy to see this in a theater. I think it was a lot better than the crap that has been regurgitated over and over again.

This film was actually recommended to me by a friend who said it was awesome. I did see the film myself and I wouldn't use the word awesome to describe it but it is one of the better werewolf movies that I have seen in a while. During the first half it had the usual genre clichés that were in a way painfully obvious but later it pulls out a few very clever plot twist that actually manages to surprise. Also, given that this is a made for TV movie the quality and production value as well as the special effects will certainly leave you thinking otherwise. The cast has a few familiar faces among them including Ed Quinn, Nia Peeples. Stephen Rea and Steven Bauer and all of them including the supporting cast give good performances.Overall, awesome might not be the word I'd use to describe this film but in the end I did like it and I'd recommend it to fans of the genre.
