It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

I've always really liked creepy Hospital Horror. And this one, although it never will win any awards, does a pretty good job in creating a very creepy, disturbing atmosphere and mood, but WITHOUT going over the top in an overly campy way that would ruin it. In other words, they take it seriously, but they present the Horror in a more bizarre, fantastical way. I particularly liked the lighting that they used in the hospital. VERY nice use of shadows and coloured lighting. Sort of reminiscent of the lighting techniques that Bava used in some of his films, which I felt gave it it's old fashioned type feel.Yes, there is a bit of a sadistic slant to some of the violence that I didn't particularly care for personally, since I don't normally go for that kind of thing. But, in this context, it came across as a LOT more 'REANIMATOR' than a 'HOSTEL' or 'SAW' type film. I think what makes the difference, despite some of the gruesomeness, is the 'Mad Scientist' angle, which obviously brings in a Fantasy element to it, as opposed to 'Normal' people simply doing nasty, 'Realistic', sadistic things to other people just 'because'...Honestly, the acting and story aren't really all THAT strong. If I was just to rate it based upon that, I would probably just give it a '5' But, since I felt that the main strength of the film was primarily the mood that the film makers created with the creepy hospital, the nice lighting, and the atmosphere, to me that kind of nudged it up to a '6' because that is mainly what I liked about the film. The overall feel that I got from the movie was like an Old-School Horror film set in a creepy hospital, of which there are a LOT of Horror films with a premise similar to that. Like another reviewer commented here (negatively) about one of the scenes towards the end when she finds her boyfriend, 'Who would believe that $hit?' That is precisely my point, that the Horror in this film is really much more slanted to the Fantastical then the 'Realistic' Horror that you see more so in modern, more 'Torture' oriented Horror films in recent times. Thus the reason why I liked it, despite a few scenes where I felt they maybe went just a little overboard with the violence. For example, with 'REANIMATOR', one of my favourite Horror films, you never really get the sense of 'Viciousness' And, even though the Horror is way over the top, it comes across much more in a spirit of 'Fun' rather than being truly mean-spirited. Of course that film had a deliberate comedy element, whereas this one does not. In this film here they pushed the sadistic element a bit more than I would have liked, but I feel that they still (barely) kept it within the context and theme of an old fashioned Horror film...So, IF you are not the type of person who demands absolute 'Realism' in their Horror films and if you DO happen to like more of an Old- School, 'Mad Scientist' type vibe as far as the story and creepy setting, then you might enjoy this one somewhat.

I just do not understand how on earth these people are given the budget to pull of these sort of movies with no backbone at all. I really thought it would be a good 1.5 hour of leisure on a scary movie but I was totally disappointed from the start to the end. Bunch of party animals have a crash in the middle of nowhere and they discover they actually have run over a man who sneaked out underneath the vehicle to grab one of the victims then everything picks up from that moment on. The ambulance arrives with two weird looking dudes taking the wounded person on the stretcher to embark him in the ambulance and thought nothing happened to the other people who actually ran over the guy are asked to get in the ambulance to have themselves checked at the hospital. The first thing I realized the ambulance was looking like one with the lights and stripes outside but when the door was opened it was nothing but the track to lay the gurney on. first off It is very unlikely for people to get in an ambulance with another patient who is in a critically bad condition second they would wait for cops to come and talk to them no matter what they are asked to do. When they are brought to the hospital they are welcomed by an odd nurse who is asking them to ''thoroughly fill out the forms'' which is nothing to do with the hospital's real concept second it was not done not to make the victims suspect of the hospital. It was just done to string the audience along with the movie. I was really trying to understand why the nurse was so high-strung all the time people were trying to speak with her and more oddly she had a very different accent than usual which did not really make the movie look scarier than it was. Apparently the sick doctor is trying to find the right bone marrow or the organ to heal his beloved wife who is as sick as the doctor actually is. They are bringing people in and kill them to see if these people's anatomies are compatible with the doctor's wife. There are some moments like the naked's man storming in the room and collapsing on her spewing all his organs on the lead girl's face and her storming out of the room and more oddly the sick nurse's punching her blood soaking face but his hand's not getting any blood off of the girl's face. Failures and omissions are countless. The lead girl(Emily)tries to find her boy friend in the hospital and sees Jude( another victim) ripping his own arm and asking him what he is doing and he goes he is trying to find something under his skin and also saying he was given a pill. Then Emily tells him to stop and put a cloth on his ripped arm and they get out of the room and magically Jude's arm is perfectly and professionally wrapped. I think I don't really need to describe how awful this movie is . It is as bad as Human Centipede 2 . Years fly by but bad scary movies are still spot-on .

I didn't thank it was the worst horror film I have ever seen however I have seen better ones. I have even seen better b-horror films. The gore was pretty decent and there were some scenes which were pretty creepy. The acting wasn't terrible. For the most part it was pretty good. I just have one question if anyone could help me. At the very end when the girl is stitching up her face and says to the doctor - You're right, I should be a doctor (whatever it was), and then you see the doctor, burned face and all, wake up and grab a very sharp instrument, it just ends there. ???? What should we assume? Did he get up and kill her at that point or not? I am totally confused. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Adam Gierasch isn't unknown for me, I just have seen his latest effort Fertile Ground and liked it and in fact I have seen so many flicks directed by him, Night Of The Demons, Mortuary,...And some of them I loved some I hated because they didn't deliver on the horror part. But luckily this one does deliver. The story itself is as usual, some friends having an accident and are being picked up roughly by an ambulance. They are taken to an abandoned hospital with a sick doctor. From there on it goes badly wrong for the friends. The acting is okay and believable. But the main lead Jessica Lowndes did already appear in a Masters Of Horror (Dance Of The Dead) and did another horror, The Haunting of Molly Hartley (2008) but for the moment she's in the 90210 series. And didn't I recognise Robert Patrick from Terminator 2? Well, they all know their job and did well.Although some stupid things going on that are unbelievable like the scene were Emily is trying to catch a cell phone without being seen is ridiculous. And there are some other parts like that (the cutting of an arm) but it's the amount of red stuff and even some gory scene's that makes it watchable. But you keep watching until the end to know what is going to happen, surely one to autopsy.Gore 3/5 Nudity 0/5 Effects 3/5 Story 3/5 Comedy 0/5
