It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny

It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties.

In 1988, in California, cinematographer Dennis moves to the house of his girlfriend Julie to raise a family with her daughters Katie and Kristi. Little Kristi has an imaginary friend named Toby while weird things happen in the house. Dennis decides to place cameras in the house to capture images during the night and soon he finds that there is an entity in the house. Paranormal Activity 3 is unfortunately another Paranormal Activity that besides some good moments it just misses completely the point and turns into a found footage "porn". (5/10)

Watch Paranormal Activity 3 if you want to fall asleep, not if you want to be frightened. This movie forces its storyline into the exact same framework as the previous two movies and it just seems ridiculous. Additionally, this slow, tedious movie constantly tries to prove that it takes place in the 80s - probably because it doesn't look or feel anything like the 80s. Plus, the few jump-out scares are not worth the wait. This franchise is on its deathbed and it needs to pass on.

If you've already seen and enjoyed the first two Paranormal Activity movies, I see no reason why you shouldn't like this one: it's the same thing all over again—Poltergeist a la found footage. Me? I was left rather unimpressed.Christopher Nicholas Smith plays wedding videographer Dennis, who lives with his girlfriend Julie (Lauren Bittner) and her two young daughters Katie (Chloe Csengery) and Kristi (Jessica Tyler Brown). After convincing Julie to participate in a spot of home-made porn (which is interrupted by an earthquake—talk about bad luck!), Dennis notices something peculiar on the tape which leads him to believe that their home is the focus of supernatural occurrences. Setting up cameras around the house, he attempts to capture more spooky goings-on…What follows is lots of tedious video footage in which the viewer waits patiently for something out of the ordinary to happen. Admittedly, there are two very effective jump scares along the way, but neither of them revolve around the supernatural, which makes them feel very cheap. The bona fide spooky shenanigans are predictable and not in the least bit scary. The best thing about the whole film is the mounting of a camera on an oscillating fan, which means that the viewer is forever expecting something nasty to come into view as the camera moves from side to side. Apart from one of the aforementioned cheap scares, it doesn't deliver, but it was a nice idea.

Paranormal Activity could very well be the only horror franchise worth watching that's new to our screens in the past decade. It can't be denied that each film does borrow somewhat from the last and for some the repeated tirade of CCTV-like footage displaying apparitions, slamming doors and distant wailing could get insufferable really fast, I personally found Paranormal Activity 3 to be far stronger than 2 and on par with 1. The last twenty minutes of the film are really quite something and express promising talent and unforgettable jolts. In Paranormal Activity 3 it is what's suggested that is much scarier than what is seen.
