The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;

So,I recently just found out that R.E.C has been adapted in to a American horror film starring Jay Hernandez and Jennifer Carpenter called "Quarantine",I knew that there was a film called Quarantine but I didn't know it was a American adaption of one of the scariest horror films ever. So,as we all know,this film follows Angela,played by Jennifer Carpenter,who goes along with a group of firefighters after a woman called about an attack in her apartment building only to discover a virus is spreading all over the building. So,when I even heard that John Eric Dowdle was directing it who directed brilliant horror films such as As Above So Below and The Poughkeepsie Tapes,I got so excited and I found it in Poundland for only £2 so I got it and just this morning,I watched it. Basically,Quarantine is the exact same as R.E.C,Jennifer Carpenter is the exact same as the Spanish actress who played her character in the Spanish version. The ending to the film was also highly insidiously brilliant,just like its prequel,I will not spoil but Doug Jones was awesome in the end of the film. Jay Hernandez was also very good in the film but sorry,Rec was better,except for the fact that it had subtitles,which I don't like sometimes,so,this was great!! Quarantine is a very good horror film

This unflinchingly gory found-footage makes a fair endeavor to live up to the standards of 'The Blair Witch Project' and 'Cloverfield' - - two of the most influential entries in the found-footage genre. And the question is does it manage to reach that mark? Not exactly, especially as not only happens to be a remake of the Spanish-horror film 'Rec', but borrows elements from George Romero's zombie flicks and applys them to a found-footage installment that owes similarities to 'Cloverfield'. Nonetheless, this film makes a surprising achievement of delivering a brutally terrifying thrill ride that spears viewers with a relentless surplus of blood and gore, while balancing a barrage of spine- chilling scares. There is little argument that the found-footage format can serve more as a detriment to the visceral atmosphere than a tool for gripping viewers with pure realism, director John Erick Dowdle manages to make things work. This film focuses on news reporter Angela Vidal (played by Jennifer Carpenter) and her cameraman Scott Percival (played by Steve Harris) who tour a Los Angeles fire department to document the behind the scenes work of the firefighting team. When the firefighting unit is called for duty. They along with Angela and Scott race to an apartment that has become overrun by a deadly virus that has infected many of its residents. When the apartment is locked up under quarantine, Angela, Scott, the firefighting unit, and a rest of the survivors must survive against the sadistic virus as it slowly begins to mutate everyone into flesh-eating savages.John Erick Dwindle never attempts to uproot anything from the genre, which is understandably a difficult feat for a film feels almost like a carbon copy of George Romero's 'Diary of The Dead'. But how he manages to generate a terrifyingly grim atmosphere from the inspired elements is something can viewers, particularly horror fans can admire. This film packs an incredible surplus of nightmarish imagery and a disturbing amount of blood and gore ignite a brutally terrifying thrill ride. From the opening minutes of the first zombie attack, to the final scene, the sense of powerful urgency pops out of corner even when you least expect it. Like Cloverfield, the startling action takes place through the lens of a camera carried by one of the lead characters. Predictably so, the documentary style cinematography occasionally chews away from the tension as the relentless shakiness renders some action visually incoherent, making it distressingly difficult to fully seek out what's going on in the already dark. Luckily, this problem doesn't persist for too long. As for the plot, Dwindle manages to keep things moving, although the story manages to overstay its welcome during the last ten minutes or so. The cast performances are mostly solid, although none of the actors are given a whole lot to work with other than scream and shout in pure distress. None of the characters are people you are expected to latch on to towards the final stretch.Quarantine is an effectively competent found-footage horror ride packed with startling thrills and a firmly grim atmosphere -- both of which make up for the occasionally flawed script. This is film may feel like a rehash of popular cinematic elements from both the found-footage and horror genre, but director John Erick Dwindle's competently crafts this movie into a terrifying ride.

Seriously, give Jennifer Carpenter an Oscar or something, because her performance in this film, especially the last 30 minutes of it, completely blew me away. The movie itself, was very good, extremely scary, and done very well for what it is. I have not yet watched Rec, yet, so my opinion here is based solely on how I felt about this film alone, without comparing it to the original. I was glued to my seat, and honestly had to plug my ears and half hide my eyes at a couple parts because the tension was so high and I just knew there was something horrific about to happen; the fear and terror portrayed by Carpenter on screen was palpable. I don't think I've ever seen an actress go as far in a horror film as Carpenter does here. She completely gives it her all, and at some points I wondered if she didn't just collapse or totally pass out after shooting some scenes,. She works herself up into tho most believable frenzy of fear, terror and panic that I have ever witnessed in a horror film before. She carried the movie for me. This movie is definitely worth a watch, if for nothing else than to see her performance. But on it's own and as a whole it really is a very entertaining, creepy movie.

I do like some virus types of movies but this one was not my thing. It's not totally bad - not the worst film I've ever seen but it's not a top-notch virus type of film.I realize that some people thoroughly enjoyed the film and others totally hated it. So, I went into watching this film that I would hate it before I even watched it. The outcome: Well I don't hate the movie instead I say "meh, it's OK." I've never seen the original - which I may like better - so I have nothing to compare this remake to. I am simply going by what I like and don't like.5/10
