An Innuit hunter races his sled home with a fresh-caught halibut. This fish pervades the entire film, in real and imaginary form. Meanwhile, Axel tags fish in New York as a naturalist's gofer. He's happy there, but a messenger arrives to bring him to Arizona for his uncle's wedding. It's a ruse to get Axel into the family business. In Arizona, Axel meets two odd women: vivacious, needy, and plagued by neuroses and familial discord. He gets romantically involved with one, while the other, rich but depressed, plays accordion tunes to a gaggle of pet turtles

It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

Arizona DreamThis was filmed before both Benny & Joon and What's Eating Gilbert Grape, but then sat on the shelf for two years, before finally getting a limit released. Some movies only work if you are willing to suspend disbelief. Since I believe in worlds where a man can fly, shooting oxygen tanks can blow sharks up, one man can take down an entire army and galaxy's far, far away that's obviously not a problem for me. This is one such movie. Like most of Depp's brilliant work back then, this slipped through the cracks. It's a movie where you have no idea what will happen next, we see Ambulances to the moon, turtles, thunderstorms, suicide by bungee cord and Depp counting fish, or is he listening to their dreams??There is no predictability or by the numbers nonsense here. You really do not know where it's headed.. Depp is great and is ably backed up by the legends that are Jerry Lewis, and Faye Dunnaway. I suspect Hollywood loathe to make movies like this. Letting a director have full creative control and freedom to put his vision up on the screen. Arizona Dream grossed $122,000 during its limited release.

If this movie were my dream, I would say that it is absolutely crazy and I wouldn't want to dream this again. Seems like this movie has a lot of story lines and I would like to say that too much. One moment I'm trying to understand one scene, but it's quite difficult because there are more than one story lines in one scene. Everything would be fine if those story lines were very clear, but they weren't. Actually, some scenes seemed silly for me. I love mind blowing movies, but this one... Yes, it is mind blowing, but I can't say that I liked it. I think it is too far from reality. Yes, this movie helped for Johnny Depp, helped to grow up like an actor, helped for his career path, but only he can say why and how, because I can't understand. Axel (Johnny Depp) was very passive character. He kept a close watch on everything. This movie balance between reality and fantasy. Personally, I prefer reality... By the way, some scenes looked unnecessary. Plot is too wide. Of course, this is my opinion. Watch this movie and make your own decision.

Serbian director Emir Kusturica is a real entertainer whose films not only have serious messages but also have the potential to make viewers happy. His American debut film Arizon Dream is pure magic. It is one of the most famous American films made with European sensibilities. What we get to see in the film is the possibility to have a bemused look at the difficult lives of innocent dreamers and their idiosyncratic dreams. The reason why this film succeeds is because of its powerful cast which includes the most influential artists of American cinema. There are great actors like Johnny Depp,Jerry Lewis,Faye Dunaway and Vincent Gallo. The best thing about this film is the exploration of all things American. This is the reason why we get to see our leading players watch a film by Alfred Hitchcock which they even try to imitate. The definition of love also seems to have changed with this film. This fact cannot be explained as this film would have to be seen to understand that. All in all,a great film which needs to be seen more than once.

alright, i have a question for you guys:what is with the dog theme? i was watching the movie and i noticed that there are many scenes where there is a dog around and it is often barking or it is just there. It seems to me that all the time there's a dog hanging around. Does it show something like the existence of dreams or anything? does it symbolize anything or is it just... there?! I also want to know what exactly the dreams Axel has mean. For example when the fish he sees goes and bangs staff around, like the cars or that thing he builds for her to fly. what does it symbolize (if it symbolizes anything).(i'm supposed to write a minimum of 10 lines so i will just write staff for a while. Don't pay attention to the contents of this bracket and just try to read what i wrote on top. Thank you very much)
