The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.

This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

In 2013, it was a hard period for me when I was extremely feeling so much pressure on my shoulders regarding to college and all other future stuff. This movie totally reflected how a college/university candidate feels like in many senses. The movie is full of emotions, especially determination and I wish I watched it in 2013... it could have make me more relax and aware of the things that are related to future and career plans. At the end, only thing that I felt is a sweet connection and sense of empathy between me and all the characters inside the movie. Anyone who would like to remember the college years of themselves or their children(s) should watch it. It's a beautiful movie.

Why do people attempt metaphor when they clearly don't understand it! A so-so plot ruined by bad acting and direction. A movie about poetry, lacks so much of it. The director needs to educate himself about camera, and the editor needs to educate himself about cuts to be able to say anything. The over usage of hand-held cameras, is just annoying and wrong. When one cuts directly to a hand-held camera's footage, it immediately implies that it is a characters perspective. Which the reading in Rat's class scene, clearly isn't. Why keep Sylvia Plath poster in the same shot as when the audience and the character itself is calling herself a "whore". If the poster was placed much higher, with a wide-angle shot, it would have made some sense, here in the way it's done in the movie is plain ridiculous. As far as the movie's premise is concerned where the character is established to be toying with the idea of suicide has no impact whatsoever. As a result there is no curiosity built to learn more about the character by the audience ... Hence the premise gravely defeats its purpose. The only thing that manages to keep the film somewhat afloat is John Cusack's acting. All and all, the makers of the movie may have an appreciation for poetry in general, but clearly lack the knowledge of cinema vocabulary.

Review: This is a typical teenage movie about a girl who is dying to become a poet and ends up taking a job in a porn store to pay for her education. Although the movie is quirky and in some parts, slightly funny, I did find it uninteresting and the main character was a bit over the top. She constantly seeks John Cusack's praise, which becomes tedious after a while, and she just ends up making a fool of herself. When she finally comes to terms with the fact that she might have to think of another profession, she finally gets on with every day life without her head in the clouds and she manages to find love. Even at this point, I still was a bit bored with the whole movie and I was waiting for a twist or something interesting to happen. It's a bad attempt by the director to try and make a trendy movie which is supposed to be light hearted fun. In all, it's nothing that amazing! Round-Up: Judging by the money that this movie made, it really didn't go down well with audiences and I was really surprised that John Cusack took on this project. Maybe it was a favour for the director. I did find the transvestite funny but that was the only positive thing in the movie. John Cusack didn't really look like he was giving his all, and he was a bit of a prick throughout the movie. I haven't seen any of the other characters before and I doubt that I will be seeing them again. Emma Roberts who has starred in movies like We Are The Millers and It's Kind Of A Funny Story, which I really liked, has a limited range to her acting which should grow with the more roles that she gets. Anyway, the movie wasn't that good and not that funny.Budget: N/A Worldwide Gross: $20,000 (Terrible!)I recommend this movie to people who are into there teenage movies about a girl who wants to become a poet and ends up working in a porn shop to fund her habit. 3/10

Adult World The best part of working at an adult bookstore is the great customer base you get to pepper-spray nightly.Surprisingly, the X-rated video renters in this dramedy are quite innocuous.A college graduate with no prospects in her chosen field of poetry, Amy (Emma Roberts) eventually answers a want ad for a porn store clerk.Under the tutelage of fellow employee Alex (Evan Peters), Amy learns the ins and outs of the adult entertainment and writes her prose in her spare time.By chance she encounters her idol, erstwhile poet Rat Billings (John Cusack), who begrudgingly becomes her mentor. But her drive for recognition quickly alienates her new family. Not as prolific as it wants to be, Adult World does benefit from Cusack's involvement but he is not enough to carry the clichéd laden coming-of-age script. Furthermore, any poet worth a damn isn't into pornography, they're into pills and booze. Red Lightvidiotreviews.blogspot.ca
