Entertaining from beginning to end, it maintains the spirit of the franchise while establishing it's own seal with a fun cast

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

Here's a short and sweet review. I'll sum it up.SPOILERS AHEAD.Emma, the beautiful bimbo gets possessed by Satan, why does Satan waste his time on some random person, who knows. So she is a brat to her brother, Mark. She tries to drown him, but fails. She also manages to kill her psychiatrist, and put her cousin in the hospital. May I remind you that she had sex with her cousin.....yeah, I won't dwell on that. I guess that's okay over in Europe. So the convenient uncle is a former priest, and comes in to do a series of exorcisms. But he has no success, at least that's what we are led to believe. The film was pretty goofy throughout, but one event made dark all of a sudden. She gets her brother run over with a vehicle. Damn, that was mean. And if that wasn't enough, she confesses the truth that she called upon Satan to "free" her, because she's a b-tchy teenager who misbehaved, and got in trouble. BOO-HOO. And that's not even the best part. It turns out her priest uncle was the mastermind of the whole possession. He used her to bring Satan into the real world. He recorded it all, so he could show the truth to the world. So the father dies, Satan just leaves for some reason. The uncle kills himself, and the family is completely destroyed. Well something positive had to have come out of all this. Nope, the tapes are gotten rid of, and the mother goes crazy. Wow, that whole film was pointless.I must say it was pretty entertaining, there wasn't that many bad things I could say about it, it was just okay. I would recommend it, it's worth one watch.

I have to admit that the subtitles on my blu-ray sucked so much that it took me away from the movie many times and may have an effect on my feelings about the experience overall (scandinavian people, beware of shitty subtitles and if you feel you need to buy this, get it abroad with English subtitles). On to the movie though. There are some good little ideas here. Yes, it is a possession movie and many things you'd expect are implemented in this film as well, and while there isn't anything revolutionary in here, there are still little things and nuances that at least try to complement the story. That said, even though there is some effort, this movie doesn't quite nail it. There are good ideas and good settings for some scenes but they aren't used to their full potential. I wouldn't want to say it's half-assed, because the effort is there but they didn't go all the way. There was potential to make this a good movie, now I felt like the experience was average and lacking. The scary parts should've been a little more shocking, the family drama a little more dramatic, the narrative a little more deep, the structure a little more coherent. Too many things were toned down and it didn't have real impact on me.Anyway, I didn't outright hate it. Acting was decent most of the time, and I liked the family-centric approach (which isn't anything new, but always feels the right way to go). This movie managed to stay somewhat intact. Definitely isn't one of my favorite exorcism films, but I didn't feel like I had absolutely wasted a part of my life watching this.

The specific sub-genre of exorcism movies do only dish out the occasional great movie once every now and then, and this movie, however, is not one of those overly great ones. The story here is fairly generic, straight-forward but also somewhat predictable, which ultimately causes the movie to lose appeal and fail to stand out in a sub-genre that is already flooded with less than mediocre movies. The acting in the movie was by definition good enough, nothing extraordinary, and not even a small appearance by horror icon Doug Bradley managed to lift the movie up from mediocrity. However, I will say that the actors and actresses in the movie didn't have all that much material to work with, so it was sort of difficult to shine in this movie. As for horror and shocking moments? Well, don't get your hopes up, because there aren't any. This movie doesn't keep you on edge or make you jump, cringe or cower in any way. I will say that the effects of the possessed Emma was good enough, though I have seen better in other movies. The movie in itself is a good enough attempt at the genre, it just fails to leave a lasting impression and doesn't manage to distinguish itself from so many other movies of the same type.

I only watched this film because it starred 'Sophie Vavasseur'; and I loved her in 'Evelyn', although that was quite a few years ago...Normally I can't stand exorcism movies. They all use pretty much the same story line, scares, dialogue and the same crappy makeup in order to portray the demonic possession. However, 'exorcismus' didn't. Without makeup and effects, the demonic possession is convincingly acted by the character 'Emma'; it is simply fantastic. Her acting, especially with her eyes is all you need to be convinced of her body invasion. I loved it. Sophie Vavasseur is such a talented actress.. even her British accent was flawless, considering she's Irish! Perfection. She's indeed very creepy at times.Obviously, you can't have an exorcism film without a priest, the demon saying obscene things and a few deaths but I feel this film handed these things in such a way that it made it differ from the rest. I liked the twist.. that was good... I also really believed the family dynamic. This film was believable because their lives were so normal and mundane and they were still trying to act that way even though this 'demon' had possessed their daughter. I just found it incredibly believable unlike how it's portrayed in 'the exorcist.'Overall, I really liked this movie. I liked the cast, the script, the twist, the fact it was a British Production; everything about it. I already recommended it to a friend and she thought the same as me.. the acting on Sophie's part was brilliant.Watch it!
