The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

After moving to a new town, a young man gets involved with the leader of a rebellious vampire clan after his sister gets turned into one forcing him to enlist a legendary vampire hunter to track them down and return her safely. This one was pretty decent though it did have some problems. One of the film's greatest parts here is the first half's rather fun telling of her transformation which is where it does have some good stuff in the gradual realization that they're dealing with vampires. The fact that this utilizes vampire lore fairly well in doing so, from the sudden super-strength and demonic voices to the initial feasting attempt that gets interrupted and showcases the traits of her growing condition using the mirror and crosses to fine effect here. While integrated nicely with the first encounter with the entertainer from the party where she gets accidentally impaled on the statue and explodes which really settles into the idea further of what's going on that he's stumbled upon a vampire clan, and after meeting the hunter fills him in on how it's built that really sets into motion what's going on. The build-up here from this into the second half here of how he tries to win over the group with some fine action scenes here, from the rather thrilling chase throughout town as they flaunt themselves around for the officers charging after them, a great group swarming scene at a night-time surfing session with some fine brawling here with the fight against the other vampires before setting up some fantastic set-pieces in the finale where he stalks the group down in their hideout where there's some great battling against the rest of the clan as well as the big final battle around the two which is really fun, and includes the great setting which is a dank, dark crypt which allows for some nice atmosphere. With the fantastic make-up and gore here helping this one to become slightly decent, there's enough to like here to hold this one up over its few flaws. The biggest is that it consisted far too much on a series of clichés which aren't the least bit interesting, from the lifestyle of the gang being into extreme sports or the laid-back surfer vibe which isn't exciting nor really makes the main villain someone that really should be fallen for. The different manners of behavior which indicate that are so lame and haphazardly written here that he comes off as a really pathetic villain, especially all the talk about the lead vampire being such a threat but turns out to be yet another pansy vampire looking for a bride like in so many of these kinds of films. The other problem comes from the rather weak plan for infiltrating the group, which doesn't make much sense. Not only does that require the fact that they're incapable of realizing the change has taken place when they did it to him in the first place, but also knowingly sends the guy into a coven full of vicious vampires that have already taken an interest in him from the previous party antics and simply accepting him in anyway just because his sister's involved with them, a plan that make this one seem quite lame at times. Still, this one is a lot of fun.Rated R: Extreme Graphic Violence, Extreme Graphic Language, Full Nudity, some sexual content and drug use.

A long awaited sequel finally was released in 2008, when The Lost Boys: The Tribe released direct to video. Lost Boys: The Tribe follows a new band of troubled family members moving to a vampire infested city to make a new start of life. The film showed promise being similar to the original in many ways, fluid and true to its first source. This new film however didn't have the boundaries as the first, showcasing an abundance of sexual content with nudity and a few brutally gory scenes involving the new group of renegade vampires. The Tribe, although a fun watch to pop in for the night, didn't really stick out at all, having sub-par of slightly better attributes. None of the characters were engaging, well with the exception of Edgar Frog, and their dialogue wasn't interesting or quotable either. The film almost in a way gave the viewers something they already saw. There wasn't anything that really sparked anything imaginative and the ending was predictable. The end credits is probably the most anticipating part revealing a couple of familiar faces.

I'd like to say something really wonderful about this film, but I don't want to lie.If you really liked the original Lost Boys film, you may like this. If you enjoy pain and suffering, you may really enjoy this movie. The only memorable scene is at the end where the aunt/landlady is ready to throw the pair out.The rest of it is male bravado, yelling, attempted intimacy, partying, and all the things that are supposed to get you to believe that this is more than a hurried shuffle of a script with some new elements added. It could be worse, and that's the one good thing I can say about this film.

The IMDb rating of this movie doesn't do it justice. The film was not bad. In fact, it is my opinion that the soundtrack in the original made it feel a lot better than it actually was. This being said, there is a huge gap between the seductive horror of the original Lost Boys and the slightly above boring atmosphere of The Tribe. The main problem lies in the director, I guess. He lets the main character come up as an uptight unlikeable ass, while allowing Corey Feldman to be silly, thus robbing us of any strong lead character. The girl is no better, as she is portrayed as uber sexy and she is rather bland. The vampires were a little cooler, and choosing Angus Sutherland as the head undead was a nice touch. It all fails when the fighting action starts, though.Bottom line: decent sort of a remake of Lost Boys, but lacking the brilliance of the first. A better director or just a little more effort could have done wonders for this film. It is certainly not below average, but sadly not above, either.
