Most of this movie is trying to predict how it ends. I got some details right, but not all."Was it interesting?" While they tried to portray conspiracy theorists rather well, they didn't really show a realistic investigation to me. 2 out of 3."Was it entertaining?" There's not much character development, and the story just seems to string several movie tropes together. I was hoping for something a little more complex and exciting. 1 out of 3."Was it memorable?" The ending is the key to this type of movie, and this ending was slightly predictable but mostly a letdown. It was made well and pretty well acted. 1.5 out of 3.Starting with 1, 1 + 2 + 1 + 1.5 = 5.5With a half, I'm going to round down to 5 for the bit of disappointment of the overall ride. Maybe it's just not cup of tea.

the movie was intriguing in the beginning since it was in the style of a documentary, but it all went downhill after Terrence went missing. the whole idea of invading the tarsus club was interesting but seemed unrealistic since they had no help at all and were only two guys invading a "top secret" society. after the author of the times article showed up, it would have been time for them to book it out of there, but they stuck around, which was also unrealistic to me. after the encounter with the man who asked Jim about his family, instead of running right out the door, he called his wife to check on her. obviously the society knew they were there and had already uncovered them, so why would he stay any longer? I overall hated the twist at the end where they were just trying to scare the men because it killed the mood of the movie, especially since Aaron had also gone missing and they played it off.

As a concept this film is very cool. Conspiracies and the people who believe in them have, obviously, tremendous potential for a documentary style horror flick. And yet this film does not deliver. A lot could be done to improve and just in essence make it scarier, which is the basis upon which horror films should be merited. It has a slow beginning, setting the mood and introducing the characters but once it gathers speed it's only really heading for a anti-climactic ending. On the plus side it's enjoyable, I didn't feel the need to shut it off. I am giving it 4/10 stars simply because I think it could have been done better. I am anxious to see what else the director Christopher Macbride has filmed since this was the first movie I watched made by him.

It seems to go without saying that lately everyone rips on 'found footage' films which are basically shot on hand-held cameras and have people running around shouting directly into the lens. The Blair Witch Project started it all off (if you discount the 'Cannibal Holocaust' movies from yesteryear) which was widely regarded as a modern day classic, however, since then, we have had too many similar clones to take the genre seriously any more. However, 'The Conspiracy' actually chooses a - slightly - different route, by not having any supernatural element in it. Instead, it focuses on a couple of young video journalists who are filming a documentary on a conspiracy theorist. Then, when he goes missing, they discover there's more to it than meets the eye.As with most found footage films, the acting is pretty good, but, what sets this one apart, is its air of believability. Because there are no witches or dinosaurs and you can relate some of their conspiracy arguments to what we've seen on the news, you actually start thinking about the world around us. Yes, this film is very much a work of fiction, but there's enough to it that's based on real life to get us questioning why the 'powers that be' do what they do.If you're one of the few people who actually like found footage films, then definitely watch it. However, even if you don't like that sort of film and you just like decent thrillers then you may enjoy this one, too.
