As a fan of Albert Camus and Jean-Luc Godard, teenage Nick Twisp is definitely out of his element when his mother and her boyfriend move the family to a trailer park. When a pretty neighbor named Sheeni plays records by French crooners, it's love at first sight for frustrated and inexperienced Nick. Learning that she is dating someone, Nick launches a hilarious quest to find his way into Sheeni's heart -- and bed.

Ok... Let's be honest. It cannot be the best movie but is quite enjoyable. The movie has the potential to develop a great plot for future movies

This film was very very enjoyable, and told the story of teenage romance, and teenage stories.Although the story is quite unbelievable, I still enjoyed it very much, and found it quite humorous. I would definitely watch this film again, because it is one of those films which really make you laugh and how stupid teenagers can be. Not only did I (a teenager myself) enjoy this film - but the adults in the house did too! If you are looking for a funny, silly story then watch this, for sure!Enjoyable, and highly rated film, telling a story of love, chasing, teenage mishappening and overall madness!

Nick Twisp is a rarity among his peers. He might appear to be a nerd, but it is refreshing that he shows an interest for art films, especially French movies, past, or present. He sticks out like a sore thumb among the people in his class. Secretly, he pines for the one girl that he might not even have a chance to make it: Sheeny, the great looking young woman. To his amazement, Cheeney happens to like the same things as Nick, which goes to show the luck of some guys like Nick.Nick comes from a broken home. Her mother, Estelle, is living with Jerry, a man much younger than her, when we first meet her. Nick's father, George, is a loser. He is also presently involved with a bimbo and who knows her reasons for staying with the man. Nick wants Sheeny in the worst way. Her upright religious parents are not exactly elated when they find out their daughter shows an interest in Nick. When Shenny decides to go to an all French school, Nick is crushed. He has to find a way to prevent that to happen, but instead, he gets involved in a horrible situation that ends up in a small tragedy when through his actions, a fire is started in a central property in town, with the loss of several million dollars, but with the help Lance, the policeman sent over to interview him, he gets away with being arrested as the cop and Estelle become romantically involved.Nick's way to cope with his situation is to try to do everything possible to get Shenny get back to his town, but his strategy backfires when his alter ego, who is just the opposite of him, decides to play a couple of tricks that result in Sheeny being expelled from the tony school.Directed by Miguel Arteta, the man behind "The Good Girl", and "Cedar Rapids", he takes a different approach in how to stage a film that is basically targeted for a younger audience. The film is based on a novel by C.D. Payne we have not read and the screen adaptation was written by Gustin Nash with amazing results. Mr. Arteta succeeds in presenting Nick, a young man who in other director's hands would have been made into a caricature, and here he is given some dignity in the way he comes out on the screen. Michael Cera is a personable actor who has been involved in some good films, "Juno" among them, showing a range in his acting. Above all, he is never obnoxious, or in your face kind of person in any of the things we have watched him do. He is asked to play his normal self and his sophisticated, and more mature alter ego, Francois Dillinger, alternating easily between the roles. His main interest is Portia Doubleday, a new face in movies targeted for a young audience. Also in the cast, veterans Jean Marsh, Ray Liotta, Mary Kay Place, M. Emmett Walsh, Fred Willard, Zach Galifianakis and Steve Buscemi, who has nothing to do in the film. The film is light and must be seen for what it is so it will be enjoyed by its own merits.

OK, lets get the biggest bugbear over and done with....I do like you Mr Cera, but the important point for me is the amount of films you have now done, means you are Mr and not Master. Yes, you have boyish looks and a weedy body, but how long are you really going to play a 15 year old?!? I would expect a jump into more mainstream films, but it's yet to really happen, so for me every time a movie like this comes along with Michael Cera in, i'm immediately thinking here we go again. It's always a slightly different plot, but same old story - weedy boy likes girl, girl likes athletic tall guy, weedy guy thinks of a great idea to overcome said athletic tall guy, athletic tall guy takes revenge, he doesn't win...YAWN! This one involves a caravan and a french school a few hundred miles from said caravan.....Please stop treating me like an idiot. If you want a movie to waste a couple of hours, then its an OK watch, bearing in mind there is nothing to wow you, but if you want a good strong film, re-watch 'Juno', the acting is better and it feels more believable. And if you're reading 'Mr' Cera, please look at better scripts, you have the talent, you just need to step up!

I was in two minds about watching this one but I had heard a couple of good things about it so I took the plunge. There were some good things about it but there was also a lot that I found very average. More of my thoughts later, here's a brief summary first (summary haters please invent an alter-ego for yourselves while I write the next paragraph).Nick Twisp lives with his mother, Estelle, and her current boyfriend, Jerry. For reasons I won't go into now, they find themselves having to go and stay in a trailer park for a few weeks. Nick is into things like Sinatra LP's and Fellini films, you know, he's not your mainstream kind of guy. Of course this makes it very hard for him to meet girls, and being a teenager; of course he likes girls… a lot! Anyway, whilst there he meets Sheeni Saunders who has a lot of the same interests as he does. They begin to get to know each other but eventually Nick has to leave. Determined to see her again, he invents an alter-ego for himself, a suave sophisticated character called Francois Dillinger. He can say and do all the things that Nick can't and this allows him to, not only, get his father, George, to move nearer to Sheeni, but also get his mother, and new boyfriend Lance Wescott, to send him to live with his father. This is only the start of the trouble for Nick, you see, he had to commit a crime in order to live with his father and now the cops are after him! From here on it gets a little complicated, so I won't say any more.First of all, what I liked; I liked the use of slow motion at the beginning of the film and the little animated segments. These were good. Also good were the scenes that included the 'Francois Dillinger' character, that was also good… And that about wraps up the good parts. Unfortunately Michael Cera can only play Michael Cera so many times before you ask yourself, is there anything else he can do? Well, he can play Francois Dillinger who I found much more interesting than Michael Cera, sorry, Nick Twisp. I guess I should give honourable mentions to other members of the cast… It's not all about Cera after all… So, honourable mentions go to; Portia Doubleday as Sheeni Saunders, Jean Smart as Estelle Twisp, Zach Galifianakis (I still don't think he's funny) as Jerry, Adhir Kalyan as Vijay Joshi, Steve Buscemi as George Twisp, Fred Willard as Mr. Ferguson and Ray Liotta as Lance Wescott. So, I've mentioned the good things and I've talked about Michael Cera playing Michael Cera one time too many for me. I guess the rest of it I found a little predictable and, for a comedy, not very funny. There was only one 'laugh out loud' moment for me in the entire film. So, over all, no great comedy, but bearable enough with the scenes featuring 'Francois Dillinger' being a highlight. Worth seeing for that alone, but don't put too a high priority on it.My score: 6.4/10
