At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.

I've decided to my first review on this site, as I got a little frustrated by this movie. From the beginning I had quite positive impression about it, as the movie had interesting story unfolding although at rather slow pace (which might be disliked by somebody). However, the end of the movie left me guessing about what happened and what message was behind it all. Don't get me wrong: I like stories that leave some room for interpretation or your own morals, but this movie leaves you in despare and gasping for more information (to reach some level of comfort from the viewing).

This film sucks on so many levels. If there is a story it takes so damned long to evolve that you're prone to losing the plot trying to keep tit in your numb brain. The acting is dreadful, except maybe the child, whose daughter is 20 years older than her, wtf? There was no music that I could recall except some excruciating 'song from the future'. A gun is drawn and at last I thought thee might have been some thrill. Wrong, yet another pointless scene. The secret sign made me cringe and reminded me of some childish fantasy, but way too tedious and stupid for a child to make up. The director should take up tiddly winks, might give his life some meaning.

I had never heard of this film before buying it on the cheap at the video store, but it looked interesting so for $1.99 I figured why not? I really enjoyed the movie overall, they characters were easy enough to believe and the story save for a few points was readily followed. I thought the character of Maggie was well cast especially, and the role of Peter was also well played. I was really unprepared for a few of the twists, which I consider a good thing, as it often kept one guessing. I don't know that i would have paid $20.00 for the DVD, but it is one I watch regularly and wont tire of anytime soon. It has a decent story line, and I feel a decent ending. I would have appreciated a little more back ground information on the more senior members of Maggies "cult", but you cant have everything. Still well worth the watch.

Independent journalists Peter Aitken (Christopher Denham) and Lorna Michaelson (Nicole Vicius) decide to infiltrate a mysterious cult led by charismatic Maggie (Brit Marling) with questionable claims. There are some great inside views of a cult. It's both eerie and gut wrenching. But the biggest revelation has to be Brit Marling. She really inhabits the role. If this movie starts and ends with Maggie, then I may give it a better rating. The two leads are just not up to the task. They are little more than extras. While I understand the limits of an indie, I can't give them a break for the lack of acting talent other than Brit Marling.
