Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.

This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

I watched this movie last night and I haven't recovered from the impact the movie created in me yet. Initially, I thought this would be a usual jail break thing, but the characterization, screenplay and the humor really made it an awesome flick(only problem was I had to use English subs to understand the dialogues), but be ready to wet your eyes at the end of the movie. The little girl's acting(she actually lived as Ye- Seung) is what the lubricant to the movie I really loved her acting and the director took a good care of every single shot and the characters(though there are some usual scenes like Ryu Seung-Ryong rescuing the prisoner captain and the jail don to attain the sympathy from them) and gave a masterpiece. Every character in the movie played their part well especially Won-sang Park, Man-shik Jeong, Dal-su Oh and Kim Jung Tae and the prisoner guard who will come and enquire every time....and last but not least The soul of the movie Ryu Seung-Ryong has done a fabulous job...hats off!!!(I believe I have mentioned all of the character)...1...2...3...

For all of you saying that this story wasn't realistic, you're pitting the legal system of Korea against the legal system of America/England/Australia/Canada where you're used to it being (somewhat) fair for inmates. If it weren't for the documentary I saw on Youtube about how f**ked up the court systems and jail facilities are in almost all of Asia I wouldn't have believed that these prisoners could get away with everything they got away with, and that this case could have been blamed on Yong-Go even though it was obvious he didn't do it. In Asia it is all, entirely, COMPLETELY about saving face and keeping a good reputation. Even if the Chief of Police knew he didn't do it, Yong- Go still would have been executed just for the simple fact that everyone believed that he was a murderer and no-one would want the misfortune of being labeled a liar. It would just be easier to keep everything under hush and continue on with the lie. Obviously the kid wouldn't have happened, but who'd believe that anyway? Also the inmates would be under 100% more supervision and the guards would be 1,000,000% more corrupt. That's why the court system in Japan/Korea/China isn't spoken about much, even to the people who live there. Jail is a big NO-NO and your life is guaranteed ruined if you're ever sent. The very best and most desired lawyer in Asia would be laughed at and swept aside in America/England/Australia/Canada. So yeah, to me it was more realistic than most people because I know the court system there isn't half as structured, or public, as it is in the western world.

A father (Ryoo Seung-Ryong), who is mentally handicapped, but loves his daughter very much, is falsely accused of a crime and sent to prison. Later, his daughter Ye-Seung (Park Shin-Hye, who is a law school student, works to prove his innocence. Back in 1997, Yong-Goo lives happily with his daughter Ye-Seung (Kal So- Won), even though he has the intelligence of a child. They stop by a shop everyday to look at a yellow Sailor Moon backpack that he hopes to buy his daughter. One day, they notice that the last yellow Sailor Moon backpack is being sold. Yong-Goo goes inside the store to plead his case, but the father buying the backpack ends up slapping Yong-Goo. The following day, the girl who bought the yellow Sailor Moon backpack sees Yong-Goo working in the grocery store parking lot. She tells him that she knows another store that sells the same yellow backback. Yong- Goo follows the girl to a traditional outdoor market. A short while later, the girl is laying on the ground unconscious and Yong-Goo is trying to perform CPR. A woman walks by and calls the police. Yong-Goo is accused of kidnap and murder. The father of the dead girl is also the chief of the National Police Agency. Yong-Goo is given the death penalty and incarcerated. In prison, Yong-Goo shares a jail cell with five other inmates. One day, Yong-Goo saves the life of his cellmate So Yang-Ho (Oh Dal-Su) from a rival prison gang leader. So Yang-Ho then offers to help Yong-Goo in any way he can to return the favor. Miracle in cell no.7, one of the highest grossing movie in Korea, is one of the best family drama I have seen in ages. The mentally ill father and the intelligent daughter reminded me of I am Sam, but I liked Seung-yong Ryoo's acting than Sean Penn's. The movie's plot and story are great and the story inside the prison also grabbed my attention and I loved the way the comedy has been blended with the emotions in the movie. I laughed my a** off for a moment, the other moment tears rolled out of my eyes. The movie's end is a great tearjerker and will force one to cry. I don't just recommend one to have tissues to wipe their tears but also a friend to have a shoulder to cry on. Story: 9 Acting:10 Emotions:10 Comedy:9 Overall:10A must watch for all people.
