Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.

The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

It is encouraging that the film ends so strongly.Otherwise, it wouldn't have been a particularly memorable film

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

This isn't a terrible movie, it's just not that good either. Decidedly average with a ridiculous premise, corny dialogue and some below par acting. The lead actor is the worst culprit. No offence to the guy but he's not leading man material. The special effects designed to make him look obese are very dated and just make him look unrealistic and almost like a cartoon character. The other characters are complete clichés, from the evil gypsies with magic in their veins to a psychotic Mob boss. This would have worked better as a 30 minute Tales From The Crypt episode. It's not interesting enough or good enough for a movie.

This movie may not deserve an Academy Award by today's standards, but that's no way to measure a film. I had fun watching it the entire time, and the whole adaptation exudes Stephen King in spirit.Although the story is undoubtedly cheesy at points and the acting is as expected from a 1996 Stephen King adaptation, the whole production comes together into a charming piece of film that can (at the right moments) leave you in shock, and by the end you can't help but have a big sadistic grin on your face. I cannot recommend this more for an interesting night in. It's star rating doesn't do it justice. Simply entertaining.

Robert John Burke, Joe Mantegna, Lucinda Jenney, Bethany Lenz, Kari Wuhrer and Michael Constantine star in this 1996 horror film adaptation of Stephen King's novel. Burke (Robocop 3) plays obese lawyer, Billy Halleck who has a wife, Heidi (Jenney) and daughter, Linda (Lenz). Soon, he gets into a car accident with his wife where they hit an old gypsy woman. Constantine (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) plays Tadzu Lempke, the woman's father and gypsy king who places a horrific, body curse on Billy as justice for her death. Billy's weight begins to reduce rapidly and he becomes ill. He desperately tries to get the curse taken off even if he has to take extreme measures. Mantegna (Criminal Minds) plays mafia boss, Richie "The Hammer" Ginelli, Billy's client & friend who helps him, Wuhrer (Anaconda) plays Tadzu's great granddaughter, Gina and King appears as usual as a pharmacist. This isn't bad, Burke & Mantegna are great in it as well as Greg Cannom's make-up effects. I recommend this.
