Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.

There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.

Warning: i don't speak English very well, so this review contains some English-errors.I think this movie is underrated. Yes, this movie want to be Saw 2.0 and it doesn't work, but the movie is still better than 2 of the Saw sequels ( Saw V and Saw VII ).The Positive: - The movie is short (81min), so the movie is never too boring. - The antagonist is smart enough. Well, he doesn't reach Jigsaw by far, but he still makes good traps. -The traps. They are also a bit Saw-Like, and they mostly work, they aren't much worser than some of the Saw-Traps - There are some little scary moments. The Negative: - The antagonist doesn't have any motivation. - The characters aren't explained very well. We know nearly nothing about their family, friendships, live story... - Sometimes, the characters are a bit dumb. -There are some plot lines who become forgotten during the movie.I didn't expect very much from the movie. "Captivity" isn't as well as Saw by far, but still entertaining. Don't expect too much, and you'll be satisfied6,5/10 Points out of 10

I honestly don't know why this movie isn't rated higher than it is. I made the mistake of reading reviews before watching, so I went in with very low expectations of a Saw-type ripoff. It REALLY isn't. The only similar plot point is people sometimes facing events considered torture. It isn't, however, the "main attraction" whereas that is exactly what people want & expect of the Saw series. This movie actually has a plot, and several twists that I never saw coming. Some bigger than others. If you don't enjoy movies similar to Saw (i want to stress...only SIMILAR) then you may not like the movie. Some people just aren't in to it. Otherwise, if you give it a chance and don't nit pick over every tiny detail, its a great movie to watch. It definitely deserves a higher rating.

A film with a very small cast that has a very claustrophobic feel to much of the action. I have seen it described as just another 'torture porn' movie, but I felt it had a little more depth to it than that. The trouble is, it tries to be a little too clever and as a result I found it ended up being a little bit too predictable. The filmmakers also failed to allow the audience to connect with the victim and as a result they cannot really sympathise with her situation. It's a shame because I quite liked Elisha Cuthbert's performance. Over all though, a little too predictable and without enough guile to hold the audience.SteelMonster's verdict: NOT RECOMMENDEDMy score: 4.7/10You can find an expanded version of this review on my blog: Thoughts of a SteelMonster.

This new breed of video nasty keeps luring me back in- usually with uninspiring results but much in the manner I'd go back to the Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday 13th sequels here I am watching Captivity. Of course any film starring Elisha Cuthbert is going to have some degree of appeal, Captivity, though, doesn't go much further. It's relatively slick yet it lacks finesse. Scenes are chopped up into what are essentially segments-affecting the flow. The pace is consistent which makes these little torture 'bites' more bearable. For long periods the motive is held back and frankly when the 'killers' identity is revealed one would be forgiven for wishing he had stayed in the shadows.Ultimately Captivity is as interesting as most of these torture horror films and while it isn't awful there is certainly room for improvement.
