One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.

You could say I am a connoisseur of bad movies, always searching for the ones so terribly made, ones that make me laugh throughout and this is one of them. Without a doubt I can say that this movie ranks in my top 10 bad movies among such greats as Samurai Cop, Miami Connection and Troll 2. The plot of this movie mainly centres around Bo Derek trying to lose her virginity, first in Morocco and then Spain where she pursues a matador who has an affinity for 14 year old gypsies. I don't want to spoil anymore to those that want to seek this movie out but what I just described is only some of the utter ridiculousness that this film offers. I am surprised this one isn't mentioned amongst the great terrible movies on any lists that I have seen, anybody who loves awful movies should do themselves a favour and watch this immediately.

It was 1984 and I was in college. Also I'm gay (but I wasn't out then). A bunch of my friends decided to see this new X-rated (actually it was unrated--now it's R) Bo Derek flick. I had zero desire to see it but went along anyways. I was hoping there might be some hot male nudity (there wasn't). I can't even remember the plot! All I can remember was the audience reactions. It was all guys (of course) and everybody was quiet for the first 20 minutes--then people started snickering or fighting not to laugh out loud. What were they laughing at? The acting was terrible, the script was even worse, the purported hot sex scenes were pretty mild and, basically, Derek can't act! But above all it was pretty dull. Finally one guy burst out laughing at some particularly idiotic exchange and that was it! The audience lost it and we were all in hysterics during virtually the entire movie! We were yelling things back at the screen and literally tearing the movie to ribbons. The final sex scene (which was faked but the studio SAID it was real) got a little attention but not enough. Basically everybody walked out of the theatre still laughing or just saying (with a big grin) how TERRIBLE that film was! If u watch this for camp value with a bunch of friends u might like it. Otherwise forget it. Also the nudity and sex is pretty tame. It's VERY R rated.

This is one of the silliest and dumbest movies I have ever seen. It truly deserves all the Razzies that it has won or been nominated for. You might like this movie if you are a fan of Bo Derek and if you put your brain to sleep with alcohol or something. It has no plot to speak of and Bo scarcely loses any opportunity to show off her beautiful body. Frankly, that is the only thing worth watching in this movie(although the love-making scene was a bit too long and boring). From the very beginning of the movie Lida (Bo Derek) is obsessed with the idea of losing her virginity in some exotic land, to a sheik or something and the rest of the movie is basically how she goes about doing that. Movies cannot get much shallower than this.

The Dereks' nadir is this gloriously misconceived, stultifyingly boring (and meaninglessly-titled) erotic adventure – a multiple Razzie award winner and justly considered one of the worst films of all time! Bo's naivete in sexual matters at least demonstrates a consistency within her husband's work as a director: in all three films I've watched by him (and featuring her) – the others being FANTASIES (1981; see above) and TARZAN, THE APE MAN (1981) – she's supposedly a virgin! Bo's a spoilt rich girl (her first impulse after graduating is to strip naked on the university campus!) who wants to give herself to a man in a big way – infatuated with Rudolph Valentino, she travels to the desert in search of a sheik; when this doesn't work (under the influence of opium, he goes to sleep on her!), she sets her sights on toreador Andrea Occhipinti. Accompanying her in her sexual odyssey is beefy chauffeur George Kennedy (who looks properly embarrassed throughout) and her best friend, Ana Obregon – the latter yearns for a similar whirlwind romance but keeps any serious attachment at bay…that is, until Derek's kilt-wearing solicitor comes into her life! Needless to say, Occhipinti is a veritable stud who has a penchant for making lifelong bedfellows of gypsy-girls; his current lover is, naturally, jealous of Bo but another hopeful – teenager Olivia d'Abo – befriends her and establishes herself in Bo's sumptuous hacienda. At one point, the jilted sheik turns up in his aeroplane and kidnaps Bo – who promptly leaps out in mid-air to rejoin her true love! Eventually, Occhipinti is gored in the arena – and Bo determines to render him back his manhood, first by practicing bullfighting herself(?!) and then through more obvious means (leading to a stylized finale at the accomplishment of the miracle). The sex scenes are fairly explicit – including one in which the sheik licks a mixture of milk and honey off of Derek's throbbing bare chest!; even so, the most unintentionally comical bits involve the characters' predilection for showing their approval of something by giving it the thumbs up and, especially, Obregon stumbling in one scene – an accident the director perhaps thought of leaving in for the sake of spontaneity…which, therefore, likens him not merely to Ed Wood (see my comments on FANTASIES) but Jess Franco as well!
