Nice effects though.

The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.

There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

This is part of my in-depth reviews of all of the Direct-to-DVD Scooby-Doo movie instalments! When this movie was released in 1998 it was a breath of fresh air. It reinvented Scooby- Doo for the 90's in a brand new way. Zombie Island was the first of many Direct-to-DVD franchise instalments and in my opinion it is by far and away the best one made to date. The Animation is Done by an Asian studio company called "MOOK studios" and it looks absolutely fantastic, it's drawn with unbelievable shading and detail that adds to the heavy, dark tone which this movie has.The story of the movie is fairly simple but has many unique twists and turns. After being bored of just unmasking bad guys pretending to be ghosts the gang splits up and all go their different ways until Daphne (who has her own TV show now) decides to try and hunt for more supernatural haunts in Lousiana and catch it all on tape. Fred gets the rest of the gang together for the ride as they head to a supposedly haunted mansion on Moonscar Island owned by Simone and her housekeeper Lena. The mystery then truly begins.I won't give to much away about the story except that their have been many mysterious disappearances on the island and in the bayou's and the gang find the Zombies of the people who have "disappeared" and find out why they have "disappears". There is a huge twist at the end of the movie that is just perfect and also very dark for this Scooby world. I think it's the darkness and scariness that makes this movie the best out of them all; it still feels like a Scooby movie and has various comedic lines and moments but it just has a much more adult tone overall and seems like the main aim of the movie is to tell a solid story while giving kids (and some grown up) the spooks. The Voice cast is stellar as well. With Frank Welker returning as Fred. Mary Kay Bergman as Daphne. BJ Ward as Velma. Scott Innes as Scooby and the infamous Billy West as Shaggy (who i think does an excellent job personally). Mark Hamill and Jim Cummings also lend there voices to some less than friendly characters too. This is a must buy for all Scooby fans as it is the best instalment in the whole franchise since Scooby-Doo Where are you? In my opinion. No-one are who they seem throughout the whole story and it will keep every one guessing while the story unraveles in front of their eyes. It's just an all round excellent Scooby-Doo adventure which delivers excitement, laughs and various frights throughout and is yet to be upstaged. As good as Scooby gets 10/10

While i'm writing this review, i am actually watching the movie again after about five years and it still stands the test of time and gives such a nostalgic feeling when i watch it. First the story is something that made the movie so good, the gang split up because they have become disillusioned through each monster being the janitor in a mask, so they go there separate ways but it isn't long before they are brought back together for what seems like another jobs. The main point what makes this so good is that the zombies and the other monsters are actually real, which is both a twist and a refreshing change i mean had it been a guy in a mask it would have been very disappointing. The tone of the show as well changed dramatically which is why it's still the best today, the tone is much more darker then the original series with scenes like the original people who live on the getting sent into the river to be eaten by alligators you know that this isn't the same Scooby Do that we grew up with but thats what makes it so enthralling because it's daring and edgy which is what the series needed. Although the rest of the cartoon movies are certainly watchable they will never capture the brilliance that was this movie. 10/10

I found this to be a rather scary movie, but was not overly concerned because Scooby Doo movies always end with the unmasking of the real culprit, who has been wearing a disguise. Not so with Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island! We get to the end to find that the zombies are real (though good guys). I found this incredibly disappointing, and now find I am checking the plot of any other Scooby-Doo movies that come along. I don't want my kids watching cartoons with this sort of theme and will no longer OK them watching Scooby-Doo movies unless I have checked the plot first. Not one for the younger kids, or the over sensitive kids. I am baffled as to why the writers changed such a crucial element of the show.

This is the worst Scooby Doo Movie EVER. First of all, Shaggy's voice is terrible. It's not Casey Kasem and the person doing it instead did not do a very convincing job. And REAL Zombies? Are you kidding me? Don't mess with the tried and true formula.....the zombies, ghosts etc. are NEVER real in a true Scooby Doo. This one really scared my kids. I kept telling them the zombies would turn out to not be real. Scooby let me down. I am lucky my kids did not have nightmares. I almost did! If you rent or buy this movie expecting classic Scooby Doo, save your money and your time. I wish I had done so. I don't know what to do with it now except throw it away.
