It's not great by any means, but it's a pretty good movie that didn't leave me filled with regret for investing time in it.

If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

Now, I have seen "Undead" a couple of times ever since I found it on DVD some time back in 2004. And I will say that the movie is actually still enjoyable and watchable. What works out for "Undead" is the storyline and the colorful characters. Well, that and the fact that this is a zombie movie with just enough gore to keep us gorehounds happy. And the added alien approach to the storyline also does offer something unique and interesting to the zombie genre. It is also enjoyable that writers Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig didn't let the movie fall into the generic zombie genre (not that the "generic" zombie genre is bad). This movie sort of came out of nowhere from me, and as a zombie aficionado I just had to pick it up back in the day. And "Undead" is definitely is a most welcomed addition to my zombie movie Collection."Undead" also manages to blend comedy into the mixture with success, and there are some pretty funny scenes here and there throughout the course of the movie. The comedy is not predominant, and only serves as a spice to the rest of the movie, which in my opinion was a great way of doing it.The movie offers a wide array of colorful characters, and they had some pretty good acting talents to portray the various characters and roles. Most memorable was Mungo McKay in the role of Marion; his performance really is the one that springs to mind every time the title "Undead" is mentioned. If you enjoy the zombie genre, and if you don't mind that the zombie movie steps out of the comfort circle and breaks the mould, then "Undead" definitely is a zombie movie that is well worth checking out. I find it very enjoyable and entertaining.

After their Australian village is overrun by zombies, a team of survivors band together against the alien infection at the source of the outbreak and try to get out alive. This is a highly enjoyable and entertaining effort that really has a lot going for it. One of its most impressive attributes is the rather impressive dedication to suspense during their scenes, regardless of the intent of the scene. The first scene on the highway has a comedic edge to it, though there's the highly suspenseful bit with the body under the car, the slowly encroaching horde in the bunker works well against the flat-out action of the shoot-out to get rid of them and finally the dealings with the alien beings are just plain freaky for the unexpected nature of what's going on. That leaves the film's encounters far more satisfying so there's a lot of fun to be had from the zombie swarm overrunning the barn-house or the supermarket battle that interrupts their chance at restocking supplies to be incredibly exciting scenes mixed in here along with the rather impressive zombie make-up and gore which makes the positives in this one. The flaws within here are incredibly simple to spot, as it consists pretty much of the final half-hour as this one takes a turn for the wonky at that point. The science-fiction based turn of the plot makes no sense as the aliens have no plan for arriving or enslaving Earth, their abductions make even less sense and it really tends to feel like a whole different ending attached on at that section of a zombie movie. As well, the inclusion of the aliens does hinder this by making the entire attack beforehand all the more useless by never allowing the attacks or even the enslavement of the town to make sense. It really makes this all the more confusing by not being clear about its intentions or purpose here by making it all into redundant attacks unnecessarily. Otherwise, this is a rather fun and enjoyable during the first half.Rated R: Extreme Graphic Language, Graphic Violence and Brief male rear Nudity.

If you are a fan of zombie films, "Undead" is a true gem. It's got everything you want from the zombie genre, and some new ingredients that makes it a notch above most. The acting is decent and the plot is full of spielberg-like magic and wonder. The special effects are wonderfully orchestrated for a low budget film....the best I've seen in a long time. The comedy is laugh-out-loud funny and the bad-ass character truly acts, looks, and fights like a bad-ass. "Undead" has a surreal quality to it that is unmatched in the zombie genre. I'm surprised at the low ratings here on IMDb. This is easily in the top 10 best zombie movies ever made and should not be overlooked by fans of the genre. 8/10

I watched this movie based on the poster picture on the page expecting a cool post apocalyptic zombie tale. Instead you get this movie. I found myself fast forwarding through scenes. while it is interesting to have zombies and aliens, the film never explains the origins of the zombies, why the aliens are here, what they want, and what is with the rain. Also it felt as if it was trying to be too much like Peter Jackson's Dead Alive, which is a much better zombie comedy and movie i recommend. While Undead does contain some funny moments as in Marion's hiding of guns in weird places(armpits? really?) or the sheriff that curses every other word and is so annoying you want him to die, i found myself only actually laughing during one scene after they run over several zombies.I will admit for the low budget of said film the effects were quite good. I recommend Daybreakers if you want to see a Spierig film.
