Newlyweds Cory and Sarah Morgan take Cory's 7-year-old son Liam up to the country for some much needed family time. When it appears as if Liam has run away, psychological suspense becomes straight-out horror, as Sarah and Cory must now confront a sadistic cult-like family who have been hiding in the house all along and have taken Liam for themselves.

It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny

It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.

This is not worth watching because it is not a good film but as unintentionally hilarious as some scenes get this is not worth watching because it is not a bad film either. It is merely the epitome of what every recent mediocre home invasion thriller/horror can aspire to be.I will say that the lead actress puts across an admirable performance however it is testimony to this films poor writing that I was even rooting for her demised before the credits rolled and that I think is the true downfall of this film, the writing. The story would be at least passable if not for the cliché ridden scrip which thought it was more intelligent than it was:The leads: This film had it all Macho idiot male lead with no sense or intelligence to back up the bravado - Check. Irredeemably inept female lead who despite inciting my sympathies at the outset soon made it clear she couldn't think her way to the end of a finished crossword - Check. Annoying as hell child who I am supposed to want to see back into the loving embrace of his father but I'd rather see into the cold jaws of a combine-harvester - Check check checkity check. The villains: For about thirty seconds of this film Mr Mouse and co are serviceable villains but as the film goes on Miss Piggy soon proves herself the idiot Moriarty to Katharine Isabelle's Brainless Sherlock (Seriously you heard her in the basement, go check the damned basement). Mr Mouse thou physically imposing is hard not to laugh at when he starts talking, I'm just not sure if it is funnier because of the gravelled voice of this mouse or because of the nonsensical dialogue he spouts. I mean come on I'm waiting for you to "Tell the truth" When creating the reasoning behind these characters which did the writer run out of first: time, inclination, or his magic thinking herbs. Oh and as far as the I guess shock fourth villain seeing as we were left with a stuffed animal's head and a teenage girl both unaccounted for you'd have to be a character in this film not to see that coming. And for the final twist(s): What?, how?, wait why do I care ? My last point not bagging on the writing this time is the element of suspense in this film. That is "suspense" a term this film has heard of without understanding, the film has also heard how certain shots build suspense without understanding how that works either. "What's that?" said the lead cinematographer to a GCSE level film student "If you hold a shot after the action is gone it builds suspense? Great for the first 2 thirds of the film lets make every second shot do that occasionally there will be a point to it and occasionally not, y'know to keep the audience guessing that's what suspense is right ?" Also I'm off the opinion shakey cam can get bent as a whole from cinema for a few years at this point let alone poorly done shakey cam for one shot. And the time we wait outside the loo while the main character freshens up not suspense building it just feels like you left the camera running. In conclusion this is a badly shot sub par "film" that lacks in story and fails to endear any of the characters to you to the point where you'd quite like peter rabbit to shoot the protagonists and although he'd probably miss, they might trip and break their necks anyway. And the writer shouldn't write anything longer than a birthday card in future.(well that was cathartic)

Corey (Robin Dunne) and his new wife Sarah (Katharine Isabelle) move into a fairly isolated house, with Corey's son Liam. Sadly, little Liam (Peter DaCunha) resents Sarah because he misses his mother, which is understandable. However, as is so very often the case, scenes with a minor acting in a brattish and petulant fashion immediately causes audience rankles to rise. Corey's endeavours to 'understand' the child make me wish he'd just wallop the little sod and cause me to become irritated by his ineffectuality ("Promise me you'll give her a chance, boss," he implores more than once). From the very beginnings of 'Torment' I find this a big hurdle to overcome. One night, after hearing some noises around the house, they find Liam is missing. Instead of celebrating, they call the police. Thus begins another in the sub-genre known as 'home invasion', where the calm and comfort of home is forcibly interrupted by some nightmarish killer or other. As a sub-genre, its immediate limitations mean any film to fall under this category is virtually guaranteed to be surprise-free.This doesn't mean such projects cannot succeed as horror films if they are well done. And thankfully when the often silent invaders strike, dressed in tatty animal head-pieces things liven up. For even though their features are masked, they are more interesting than the remaining two bastions of 'family'.As the opening quote indicates ("When one has not had a good father, one must create one" – Nietzsche), it is the concept of 'family' that tries to propel this story. Just as Sarah is given the thrilling prospect of adding further children to Corey's litter, the barely-glimpsed mutants are looking for their own 'new' mothers and fathers to add to their clan. That such a perfunctory thriller results from this, should we then be heart-warmed when, (spoiler) after Corey has been killed and Sarah has been repeatedly beaten, munchkin Liam finally 'forgives' his new mother and decides she isn't so bad after all? Personally, I would have been more satisfied if the little twerp had somehow been behind the horrific events.

I don't write reviews often, but this movie is so bad that I wanted to warn other people.I was interested in the mickey-mouse-killer-portrait, so I paid no heed to the 4,7 rating. Besides, I'm always looking for that hidden gem horror movie, so I gave it a shot. Big mistake. Not once in the whole movie I was even close to be scared, character development is non-existent, and the use of music is one of the worst I've seen in my life, not to mention the abuse of clichés throughout the movie. If you are like me, then you will probably watch the movie anyway, and I can't really blame you. I just hope that someone will read this and spare the 1 hour 20 minutes.

In a world of pretty forgettable horror films this is one that stood out and sustained my interest. Without spoiling the movie I want to say that it was psychological as well spooky. Good unexpected turns, characters I actually can care about and not boring forgettable ones, and a story worth telling. All of which are refreshing in the horror genre. I do wish more films was like this one.The outfits for the villains was great too and one of the reasons this film has stayed in my head long after I watched it. I never forgot this one.The scenery is good too. A house with some forest around it does well for a horror movie.
