Late one night, a mysterious car is brought into the Chicago police impound garage after a deadly traffic accident. The on-call mechanics soon discover the car has a mind of its own. With hundreds of horsepower and two tons of reinforced steel at its command, it's a seemingly unstoppable killing machine capable of outrunning -- and outwitting -- humans.

Absolutely the worst movie.

It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.

There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.

This movie was excellent. A hilarious comedy great for all ages. The use of props to promote automobile safety greatly influenced me and my family along with messages of gun control and the harmful effects of profane language. It was also very educational, as I plan to hunt giant shape shifting squids in my fast approaching retirement. My 25 year old army boyfriend was brought to tears when Maria lit herself on fire with the Molotov cocktail, a truly inspirational experience even though it made Marlon Brando laugh so hard he began rolling in his grave. The different types of cars really intrigued my two year old son. However, my fourteen year old daughter thought it was lame, but you know how teenagers are. "Super Hybrid" was the best movie we've ever watched in the short amount of time that my family gets to visit me and my cell mate/lover at The Golden Trail maximum security penitentiary for the elderly. Definitely a 10 out 10 simply because an 11 is not allowed.

Late one night, a mysterious car is brought into the Chicago police impound garage after a deadly traffic accident...This film comes from writer Benjamin Carr. How much his idea translated well on the screen I suppose is a matter of debate. But Carr is an experienced writer. He has over 30 projects under his belt, including some Hellraiser sequels, the "13 Ghosts" remake and one of my favorite films -- "Head of the Family". So, if I have to fault anyone, I am not blaming Carr. But someone must be blamed... because this film just came up short. A good idea, some gore, some action, a decent cast (Oded Fehr is great). But it just did not hold my attention as well as it should have, and I nodded off a few times. And the very premise of a squid that can mimic a car? That makes no sense. An alien maybe or an evil creation from a mad scientist... but not this. And how does it compare to "Christine" or "Maximum Overdrive"? Well, it just does not come close. "Christine" is a modern classic and "Overdrive" is bad, but bad in such a way that you have to love it (if you can see it in a theater full of horror fans, the experience will never be forgotten). This one... I do not see it going anywhere but into the memory hole. Sorry.

I haven't seen a movie about a killing "car" since Christine and I liked this movie from the first moment. Especially that black car from the beginning. The acting was mostly good. I just can't imagine anyone smiling and acting like he's the greatest, when anyone around him dies. The story was kind of funny, sometimes. I highly doubt, that it was intended this way. Nevertheless it was very entertaining and I don't really care about how it was meant to be, as long as I enjoy watching it.There were a few things I didn't like, like some references to other movies. Once they speak about transforming robot cars and then about hunting the car like x-men. That's quite unimaginative and those references weren't even funny. They just seemed out of place. After about one hour the movie started getting more exciting and there were even some interesting turns and events. The end was quite a surprise. I'd recommend the movie to anyone, who is bored from watching the same used up story lines, since the whole concept of "Super Hybrid" is rather unconventional. 8/10

I was a little surprised by the harsh reviews ( a whole 2) that this movie got. When I first heard about it more then a year or so ago ( after seeing " the car" way back in the day and movies like " duel" ) the idea sounded intriguing. After that the movie kinda went off the radar to pop up again through the usual channels not too long ago. And I must say its a nice little movie. In the " evil car" sub genre there aren't that many peers..at least not besides the fore-mentioned titles that I can remember and this is a worthy addition. The movie deals of course with a car that eats people, the way it lures them into its interior is reasonably self explanatory after watching the trailer and reading the synopsis..but it works. The car is sufficiently menacing and if you you buy into the idea that it lurks an underground parking garage / impound yard ( after being towed there because it was involved in an accident); you have yourself a nice little cat and mouse thriller. And yes, the characters aren't that fleshed out ( although better as you might expect). The ones who survive and wont comes as a mild surprise and the idea behind it - the car- is actually rather cool. What I always found lacking in the fore-mentioned " the car" is that you never see who or what drives it, just dives of a cliff if memory serves me right and that is it. Here you do see what.." drives" it. The transformation scenes - from model to model- are nicely done and there is indeed a thrill or two to be found here. So..yes of course there are " better" movies, however in this sub genre to my knowledge there are not..and no duel doesn't count. So forget the fact that it was shelved for two years. Put your mindset to a nicely done little thriller that wants to entertain in a somewhat gritty and serious manner and its a good way to spend 1.5 hrs.
