Must See Movie...

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.

A college computer nicknamed "Thinko" picks a woman with 13 university degrees to head up the campus science department. Expecting an academic-looking spinster, public relations man Martin "Marty" Milner is surprised to greet Mamie Van Doren at the train station, a stripper nicknamed "Tassels" who has a high IQ and measurements to match (she also speaks 18 languages: "What's the 18th?" .. "English."). Milner (also an associate producer) and Van Doren are an enervated pair; better are Norman "Woo Woo" Grabowski as the captain of the football team who is afraid of girls and Tuesday Weld as a co-ed desperate to get pinned. Brigitte Bardot's sister Mijanou makes her one and only screen appearance as a Frenchie doing her thesis on the human male, Jackie Coogan apes W.C. Fields, John Carradine is hypnotized into joining Tassels on the dance floor, and Conway Twitty wrote the songs. Cult film has all the ingredients for a great B-movie...everything, alas, but a funny script. * from ****

It'll be easier to enjoy "Sex Kittens Go to College" if you simply accept it as a silly movie. The purpose is to show off Mamie Van Doren, and boy does it succeed! There's one scene in particular that probably helped a lot of boys become men. I guess that since we were just coming out of the sexually repressed '50s, they felt inclined to throw overtly sexual material in the audience's faces. Ridiculous though the content is, it's one enjoyable movie. Every scene showing Mamie Van Doren is a treat; that woman really knew how to move! "Sex Kittens Go to College" won't be for everyone. I should remind you that a lot of the content is dated. Nonetheless, the gags that Van Doren, as well as Tuesday Weld and Mijanou Bardot (Brigitte's sister) pull is some cool stuff. Mamie Van Doren was known as a poor man's Marilyn Monroe, but judging by what she does here, there was nothing poor about her style.Good times.

Hey any movie with a young Tuesday Weld is watchable. Yeah this movie is very campy but it has some good scenes as far as I am concerned. There are several pretty well known actors in this movie. Mamie Van Doran, Tuesday Weld, Jackie Coogan (Uncle Fester), Martin Milner, Louis Nye, and John Carradine. Conway Twitty even has a part and sings. How a stripper gets 13 degrees is beyond me but I guess with an IQ of 268 anything could happen especially in a movie!! Bridget Bardot's sister even has a role here as an exchange student. I was actually surprised by Van Doran's acting ability, it was not top notch but a lot better than I expected. I thought she mostly be just covered T & A but not so.

It's really sad that there is only one comment on this fun classic in six years. Written and directed by Albert Zugsmith who worked with Orson Welles on one of his greatest films Touch of Evil, Sex Kittens Go To College is a great Psychotronic film that really should be out on DVD hopefully with a Joe Bob Briggs commentary. The cast is nothing short of amazing! Mamie Van Doren is a "genius" with 13 degrees and a body that drives men wild and women to fume with jealousy. Tuesday Weld is a bit young for college at 17 but looks fantastic. Mijanou Bardot is more like the right age at 21 and her frerrranch accent like the great one done by John Cleese in Holy Grail can't help but make you laugh. There's John Carradine doing the Charleston with Mamie. The great horror movie host Vampira (who dated James Dean and at 39 isn't the hag the other reviewer says she is)is Louis Nye's lab assistant taking care of Thinko the robot a computer (!) that is a big metal robot with a lot of phony machines all around him. Hopefully if they put this on DVD they'll get the European cut which includes four strippers who do their "acts" for Thinko and Voltaire the chimp who's dressed like a beatnik most of the time. The strippers get down to some pretty skimpy panties (one is a thong so young people who think those were invented in the nineties are wrong)and pasties on their nipples. This was really hot stuff in 1960. Today it would get a PG on ABC family channel. MST3K did a great job with one of Mamie's other classics Girl's Town but unfortunately never got to do this film. Here's hoping if the show ever comes back or Joe Bob gets a shot at it this is the film they do. Like Plan Nine From Outer Space this is a classic!
