Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable

'Our House' is not the worst movie I've seen but it certainly isn't the most exciting. The first half feels like nothing more than a sad family story. The second half throws in a few scares, but really not much else. Pretty much all of the horror aspects of the film could be condensed into a two minute short. Kinda slow, nothing revolutionary, and very average. It's not that's it's bad, it's just not good either.

This reminded me of the simple days of early 90's where horror movies were experimental and had an enjoyable premise. Now i didn't entirely dislike this movie, it has its shortcomings. The scare factor was very downplayed but the concept kept me entertained. Its a good effort for a horror movie but i wish they had more fun doing something memorable to give a lasting impression. You'll probably like this movie if you want something more simple to digest when theres nothing else to watch.Other than that i don't know how to recommend this for you.

The synopsis of this film reads 'A young genius accidently invents a machine...' Well, genius this guy isn't. He's just a about as regular as you can get, displays no sign of any aptitude above normal, and all his behaviour suggest he is distinctly average.Anyhoo, the first half an hour of the film is pretty slow and nothing much occurs. Whilst it does establish the tone of the film fairly well, I did find my attention wandering as I waited for events to unfold.Anyway, after a few more scenes of sketchy pseudo science and 'off the shelf' paranormal events we get to the meat of the story - that the machine, which the young guy barely seems to understand even though he's supposedly built it, still doesn't work... aside from inducing paranormal activity in the house and there abouts. Realistically the science (or lack of) in this film is just an awkward element it could have done without. As a focal point for attention and development it just seems to cloud the proceedings. Some other object like a doll, a grandmothers amulet, or a pair of some priests old Nikes would have been better suited. The film employs all the normal cheesy methods to heighten tension, induce suspense and produce those jump moments, you know the slow throbbing sound followed by a loud sharp bust of a flat note from a stringed instrument, its all text book spooky stuff. There is a lot of clichéd stuff here and this causes it to end up feeling much like many similar films before it instead of something different, which is how it initially starts out.Its a pretty slow burner with low key paranormal stuff in the periphery that ramps up a little towards the end. The story is ok but nothing scintillating enough to really peak your interest. Most other aspects of the film are on a similar standing and even though the performances of the cast are very strong, there isn't enough going here to give more than an average rating. There are some truly terrible horror films out there at the moment, and in fact the general standard of the horror/thriller genre isn't what it once was. This film definitely does not belong in that category as it is a decent excursion into familiar paranormal territory, but I still can't say that I would necessarily recommend it, but it's OK.

A young genius accidentally invents a device that amplifies the paranormal activity within his family's house, possibly bringing back the spirits of loved ones, and unleashing things far worse. Our House is another boring and terribly stupid horror film that stars Thomas Mann and former Transformers actress Nicola Peltz. Now this movie might entertain some people who like slow horror movies but for those who might see the poster and expect something big? You're definitely not gonna get anything remotely creepy or entertaining that's for damn sure. (0/10)
