The joyful confection is coated in a sparkly gloss, bright enough to gleam from the darkest, most cynical corners.

The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.

30 for 30 Shorts: First Pitch (2015)**** (out of 4) Excellent entry in the series takes a look at the September 11, 2001 attacks and how the country needed something to assure them that we were safe. That event happened to be at game 3 of the World Series as President George W. Bush was set to throw out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium. Bush is interviewed about his thoughts going into the event and we also hear from people around here including the Secret Service who were worried that there might be another attack planned. If you're old enough to remember 9/11 and the aftermath then it's a good bet you remember Bush appearing at Ground Zero and putting his arm around the fireman. You probably also remember the moment at Yankee Stadium and we get a terrific behind- the-scenes look as the President talks about his thoughts going into the stadium and the fears that he had. Of course, there were also fears of him bouncing a pitch, which just wouldn't have went over well. We even get Derek Jeter talking about some warnings he gave Bush about the pitch. This is an excellent entry in the series that highlights what that moment in history was like.
