Two Headed Cow (2006)

Documentary - Eighteen years in the making, two-headed cow started off as a black and white film that followed Dexter Romweber and his drummer Crow on a rock and roll tour along the same route as General Sherman. The film was not finished due to many circumstances, but the filmmakers were able to resume the film seventeen years later. After major TV appearances, a stint on a major label, bouts of depression and drug addiction, the film took on a different tone and poignancy. - Neko Case, Exene Cervenka, LaResh Crash

This movie is best described as a myopic. Behind the Music has done better work in bringing to life far less interesting musicians. I really wanted to like this documentary, but it failed to examine Dexter, rather resorting to merely hearing from him and people that did not want to say a bad word about him. Not a word from his critics. Not a word to support or refute his recollections of the events surrounding his former friend and band mate Crow. It has some great music. It has Dexter and that about it. It looks like a movie that was made by a friend that did not want to risk the chance of hurting Dexter. It has Dexter and that is the only reason to watch.

I saw this film at Athfest in Athens, GA. An simply amazing film about the power of an artist to survive. It has a lot in common with some other films that have come out in the recent past (The Devil and Daniel Johnston being the closest) but there is one significant difference. The subject of the film Dexter Romweber has wrestled with his demons and fought his way back to the other side. He was at the screening and his eloquence and determination showed through not only in the film but at the Q & A session as well.Find out where this film is playing next and run - don't walk - to see it.
