Great Film overall
In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
This is a great movie, a must own. I really liked every aspect of it, from the sword fighting, the romance, the costumes were really well done and put together. The scenery is absolutely beautiful. I also loved the mystery and magic. Also the message of the power of love, that love is the greatest power there is. I really like the heart of the king in the sense that he desires peace instead of the bloodshed and hate. I wish that I could live in a world like that with flying ships, to castles in the sky. I also think that it was really nice how they brought the animals into the movie. I also thought that the cook was really funny. I have watched it many times in one day and still never tire of it. Just wish they would bring it onto a DVD.
First of all, ignore anything opolic said. They say "Karnissa" many times during the film. Obviously this hack watched the first 5 minutes and the last 5 minutes of the film only.I wouldn't recommend this as a rental. But for TV watching this would be OK viewing. Plot and character development is sketchy, and confusing at times. OK special effects. Interesting universe. Nice overall "love above all" theme. Physics are a bit skewed.Overall, I would give this a good popcorn rating. This is not a serious film in any regard, but it gives a good summer afternoon Saturday or Sunday a good way to pass the time.
This movie has very lovely message of "love is the strongest force there is". However, most of the characters are not exploited as one would expect. Joss Ackland is convincing, and I am a bit sad that Sarah Douglas didn't show her potential here, actually her cast was a bit neglected in this flick. she was the one to keep me interested to the very end of the movie. The odd thing is that throughout whole flick not once her character(Karnissa) has been mentioned by name!!!! Why? All in all, watchable but pretty naive.
I'm usually quite tolerant of movies, and very easily entertained, however this movie was dreadfully disappointing.I watched this movie after seeing on the cover that William Zabka was in it (The Karate Kid bad boy) and during this movie I could see that this would be the only reason. This film is a tremendous waste of the actors talent. The music, and sound is dreadfully tacky - I couldn't believe this of a movie made in the 90's!I wouldn't really recommend this movie unless you're interested in one of the actors.
