The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

The book on which this film was supposed to be based is a beloved story from my childhood. I purchased this film thinking it would bring the book to life. Not at all the case. This film is a poorly acted, non-sensical, unfunny, cringe-worthy adaptation that captures nothing of the charm and beauty of the original story. That the screenwriter and director inexplicably decided to take the story in the direction of a dumb comedy/bad musical is one of the great head-scratchers of all time. What a waste. My wish is that someday someone remakes this film and sticks to the original tone and personality of the book. That's a film I'd want to watch. This one is going in the trash.

I remember this film, I was just watching 'Oliver' and it was driving me nuts trying to remember this films' title, so i had to search it, and here it is! One of the things I remember is the disguises that Ron 'Fagin' Moody, got himself into, including dressing as a woman, to try to lure the children.I'm going to try and find this on video or DVD as I'm sure my kids will love it, mind you I was quite young when I saw it and I do remember being scared at a few bit of it, there's nothing bad in it, just the brilliantly sinister villain played by Moody. The rolling fields of Ireland are lovely too, what a backdrop! It will also be good to see the wonderful acting of the late Jack Wild too, such a shame he died too young.

I read another comment posted on this sight that 3 people who stared in "Oliver" were also in "Flight of the Doves." I know of Jack Wild and Ron Moody, who is the third? I checked the actor profiles of the entire given cast of "Flight of the Doves" but could not find another actor whose name also appeared on the cast list of "Oliver"! please can someone shed some light on the 3rd "Oliver" co-star? Was the person whose comment I read referring to crew instead of cast? if so, that would explain my confusion as I only scanned cast lists. However I am still fascinated to know the name of the Third person who is credited inboth films.

One of my favourites - a fantastic adventure across Ireland - does anyone agree?Apparently I have to write at least 10 lines - no problem really I can remember huge chunks of the movie. Is it true Jack Wild has cancer ? also there were a few abusive emails flying around under the Flight of the Doves section - not what I expected as I tried to capture some childhood memories - what a cruel world - well anyway Il get over it.If I remember one quote from the movie from Ron Moody as he was driving along with the kids dressed as a lady_ " I love Ireland the land of Shaw, Yeats , Robbie Burns... Hope I've made my quota - OK back to a lonely bachelor life in London..
