An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

This movie seems to be getting bad reviews and I think if you watch it expecting stellar acting then I can sort of understand the less than great reviews. However, I don't think the actors were all that bad and the special effects were actually far better than I expected. I've seen a lot of horror/science fiction films with more well known actors that were far worse than this film had to offer. I do not want to put any spoilers in here so I'll just say that I was definitely entertained and actually on the edge of my seat during the last twenty minutes or so. The special effects were as I said very, very good. If you are looking for a film with a well thought out plot and original story, don't bother watching this. If you are looking for a film to pass some time and be entertained by however, give this one a shot.

All things considered, if you're in the mood for a nifty little horror movie you can do a lot worse than this one. Considering that this movie stars a collection of totally unknown actors I wasn't expecting very much, but the truth is that the story alone is pretty good, often frightening and sometimes quite graphic. The performances leave a little bit to be desired (which probably explains why this is a completely unknown cast) but even the performances pick up as the movie goes on, suggesting that it's much easier to realistically play terror than it is to play casual banter and make it interesting. On Christmas Eve, Los Angeles is being struck by a series of tremors, that start out as minor ones but increase in intensity. Along with the tremors, blackouts begin to plague the city. The movie follows the experiences of the residents of one apartment building, who discover that their building is being infested with a number of human-like and human-devouring monsters, who seem to appear in the basement and work their way up through the floors. The monsters are truly frightening in appearance and the sometimes chaotic interplay between the various residents trying to escape is quite believable. The origin of the monsters was never definitely explained. The opening shot of the movie seemed to suggest that they were aliens, although the fact that they obviously seemed to have broken in through the basement suggested that perhaps they came from underground as a result of the tremors. I suppose it's possible that they were a combination of the two - aliens who long ago took up residence under the earth's surface, and are only now emerging. The uncertainty around that is OK. I can live with some mystery - it makes life more exciting! All in all, this was surprisingly good and provided both entertainment and a few real chills.

Well, i laughed, not bad for an 80's movie,,as for horror,,,, Porky's was scarier!!!! the monster was interesting, but scary no way,,, there was no reasoning as to what the " cones" where all about, and the ending,, still waiting. The girls where cute, and i thought the blonde died the most interesting. Overall, if i was really drunk and had some friends over,, this would be on the tube. Could never really understand how the little girl ended up in the elevator, last time we saw her was she not in the basement? How did the monsters get from the basement upstairs? What was the brother looking at across the ways? Wife and i had a lot of fun at the editing mistakes, that part we really enjoyed.

This has got to be one of the worst movies I have ever seen. The movie is about some people trapped on a building, after a major blackout. It seems that it was caused by some weird monsters that were also inside the building. It's going to be hard to review this movie, since even after seeing I know nothing about it.For starters, there is absolutely no plot. Just some people having a party. You barely get to know the characters name's, You don't know who the monsters are, where they came from, nothing. The acting is also terrible. The special effects aren't bad but are nothing special either. As the movie progresses you get the idea that the characters are paid just to die. Whenever a monster comes they just stand there, watching. Also, why wouldn't they try to exit the building? The elevators were off due to the power cut, but what about the stairs? One major "goof" that I recall from the movie is when they go to the basement looking for their kids(Ashley and Kyle). The oldest brother spots a shoe and starts moaning and the mother comes running. He doesn't let her see whatever was on the floor, yet she starts crying "Poor Kyle". How did she know it was her son and not her daughter? It could have been both too. Another one is Ashley being in the elevator, in the end. She was trapped in the basement but in the end of the movie, she appears trapped in the elevator, some floors above. How did she get there? There are some terrible movies that are entertaining, so the overall isn't as bad as it should be, but this one.. Plot: 1/10 Acting: 3/10 Sound: 6/10 Special effects: 5/10 Overall: 3
