A lot of people hate found footage movies but I love them. This one is not the worst one or the best one. Just somewhere in between. Overall I liked it. Whole movie is set in a deep forest in total darkness so it does have an eerie atmosphere from the beginning till the end.Plot is nothing special just an excuse for some dumb teens to go into the woods and get in trouble. However, unlike other Found Footage movies, this one has little twist in the end which gives us a whole new reason behind this being filmed as a found footage movie. Acting is okay. There are few jump scares, none of which will make you jump if you watch horror movies often. In the end, I did like it but obviously, could have been better. If you love found footage movies, give this one a try.

Heading out to a supposedly cursed woodland area, a group of friends find the claim that a demonic presence lurks in the woods to be true when they happen upon a terrifying force in the area and must find a way of getting out alive. For the most part this one was a highly enjoyable and exciting effort. What really works so well throughout here is the absolutely incredible atmosphere throughout this one as there's some thoroughly suspenseful and creepy moments in here that work due to the fantastic idea of how this one plays out. Playing up the haunted forest aspect incredibly well as there's just nothing at all wrong with the early set-up here, it goes from the early exploits of their games and camaraderie together with just the slightest hints that something's wrong with banging noises in the woods or animal howls off in the distance only to continually prove that nothing malicious is out there only to then suddenly turn that into a rather terrifying and enjoyable feature once the horror starts in earnest. Though there's some early fun here as it sets up the fact that there's something in the woods with them, once it showcases what's out there the film really kicks up with an impressive series of scenes as there's all manner of chases, confrontations and generally creepy encounters here that are immensely enjoyable and entertaining. There's plenty of utterly suspenseful times here, with the encounter with the boyfriend out among the rocks overlooking the cliff and the group in the woods where the falling tree nearly crushes them come off the best though the absolutely chilling sequence where they are followed by the unseen force turning on the motion-activated lights behind them which gets closer and closer while they wait for it to appear which it does in a rather chilling and startling effect, and the finale in the church is an absolute stand-out as well as the creaking wood and ominous foot- steps continually getting closer lead to a rather chilling finish. This leads to plenty of high-energy action along the way here with this one getting the dive into the underground caves or the attack on the abandoned car in the middle of the woods being superb stand-outs that really sell this one quite nicely and makes for another highly-enjoyable part of the film to go along with all the utterly chilling encounters. Though the found-footage aspect, given a more intriguing spin here as actually being framed from the lights of the their equipment instead of a video-camera as per usual, still comes with the rather tired antic of having the out-of-focus shaking visual trick that renders a lot of scenes really hard to make out what's happening and there's little thought into what's going on here as the story makes no sense, these here are really all that keep this one down.Rated R: Graphic Language, Violence and Brief Male Nudity.

The only thing scary about NIGHTLIGHT is time wasted that you can't have back.I think this movie's biggest sin is its somehow believing that it can scare you when all it can do is make your head go dizzy. NIGHTLIGHT as a horror film is its own joke. It focuses too much on shaking and not enough on giving us what the hell is really happening. The mystery gets lost in the found footage style which I must say has gotten exhausted by this point.Directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, NIGHTLIGHT is your typical pretty people in peril horror. A group of teens journey into the dark Covington forest that holds a certain past for troubled youths. One of the teens, Robin (Shelby Young) reluctantly joins the group out of peer pressure and a boy crush. Soon enough their plans go haywire when they awaken a demonic presence that take hold of their deepest fears.NIGHTLIGHT probably would've worked if it had come out about 15 years ago at the heights of of "Blair Witch" popularity, but it just couldn't work anymore today. People want to see what's going on, people want to see what horrifying presence they're dealing with or what's at hand. Having a camera look at the ground because the character is running or focusing on someplace else, only annoys the hell out of us audience. The characters seem terrified but we don't feel the same impact because we can't see what it is that's terrorizing them. In some horror movies, less is more works, in some horror movies, you can do enough damage by not being graphic or too visual about it, but when you're dealing with something like NIGHTLIGHT, where everything is already set in the dark, making things even more invisible makes for a not so fun horror-watching experience. NIGHTLIGHT is generic, it's predictable, it's dizzying, it's a major time-waster.Read more at Ramascreen.Com

I'm not one of those, whatchamacallit, lightweights. I am a huge fan of horror films in general, own over 200 horror movies, have seen countless thousands of films, and I have to say Nightlight is by far the scariest move I have ever seen. After watching it twice now (iTunes 24 hour rental system is awesome), I have to say this film defines horror perfection. To be specific, Nightlight does not fall for the average modern day horror clichés. There is no found footage, no research at a library, no complex CGI monsters, no "oh my I can't get any cell phone service!" and everything takes place during one creepy night. Nightlight preys on your fear of the unknown to deliver a true sense of hopelessness.
