Let's be realistic.
While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.
An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
It took me forever to locate the name of this movie. I watched this as a child when I was about 11 years old. I was sick and stayed home from school with my Nana when this TV movie was aired. I was captivated by the plot that got creepier and creepier by the minute. By the end, which was probably the scariest thing I've ever seen in a movie, I was resolved never to stay home from school again. (My Nana probably did this on purpose..heh) Considering this is a 25+ year review from an 11 year old viewer, I'd still say it ranks WAY up there in the scary-as-hell department. I would love to see it again, but it appears to be hard to get. Thanks to all the former reviewers that confirmed I'd found this movie at last.
I saw this movie maybe fifteen or more years ago. It frightened me so much I could not get up off the couch to go to bed. What a great thriller!!! Hope it comes out on DVD someday soon! I wish there was some way to find out when this movie might be shown again so I could plan on recording it on video cassette tape. I could then show this scary movie to my nephew. He loves movies like I do. I will never forget Kim Novak's scary smile when she was in the rescue helicopter. It gave me such a chill, I had goose bumps everywhere. If anyone reads this and knows when this movie will ever be shown again, please let me know. Thanks for this wonderful site. Mardy.
The latter-day, 40-something beauty of Kim Novak--striking and yet sinister--is milked for all its worth in this effective TV-made occult suspenser about a Coast Guard pilot investigating a doomed private yacht adrift on the waters, finding a sole survivor who seems to know the ship's many mysteries. The film builds suspense through tension and an atmosphere full of unseen dread. Although I was initially chilled by the well-handled twist ending, I was somewhat disappointed to see the film throw out all its mystery to instead become a battle between good and evil. I don't mean to suggest that's a bad thing, it's just that "Satan's Triangle" was doing such a fabulous job of being scary without being too specific that it's a bit of a letdown to see the story slip into formula. Nevertheless, a creepy, cunning item to jangle the nerves.
I saw this move for the first time in 1975 and lost several nights of sleep. I saw it again in 1976 at age 16 with the same affect. I have tried everywhere to locate it to no avail. The local TV stations could not help (although I don't think they tried to hard.)The previous commentaries sum the movie up pretty well, I don't think my two cents will add much more.I must comment on the ending scene however...pure genius, creepy and terrifying, I still remember that scene as though I had just turned off the TV. I hope we can convince someone to make it available to us.This web sight is very helpfull at least now we have more information on the actors etc. Paul Plymouth Mass U.S.A.
