Damien, a London copper has a past he's trying to forget. Before joining the force he ran with a football firm, getting involved in tear-ups up and down the country. Now he's on the other side of the law and faces a tough decision, side with his old crew or protect London as it burns and rioters run amok. Falling in love with fellow cop Louise, he is quickly alerted to a street-level uprising that is about to shake London. Amidst the brutalities presented by the riots, he fights for justice at Louise's expense. Having been raped by a rioter known to him, Damien finds himself levelling with the rioters, fighting a war he cannot win, as much against the rioters as against himself.

One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.

Well First, "Riot" may be a little misleading, cause the actual Riots isn't a major thing in the movie. Thats the story of Damien, how he grow up, how he tries to make a difference in his life. The acting and filming is OK, reinds a little of British series "The Bill"It's not award winning material, but its not that bad. The storyline is interesting where u really get to understand Damien and why he reacts the way he does. But, as other has pointed out, the end is not that good, it feels like they just wanted to wrap it up and be finished with the film. There is a few loose ends, but overall, its a good movie..A fine "have nothing better to watch a rainy Sunday movie"

This movie is kind of an enigma, if you read the review that is tagged by IMDb you'd think it was the next Academy award winner for best picture? But it only garners a 4.1 from members and it's dropping fast? Then I remember hearing that Yahoo did a study, and even in it's own reviews 80% were fake, one way or the other... This movie is no Diff. The real reviews are easy to pick out, as they are the ones SPOT ON, to quote that tagged review... The acting here is somewhat less than stellar as is the directing, the budget is smaller than most movies, but I would still say was a wasted expense~they'll be no profits still~except for those already made... ;-)Believable, No!Good acting or direction, NOAlxMac (me) gives this a 2.1 you may even give it less. Put it this way, if it was a EarthQuake on the CA coast, after being reported many people would say, "I never felt a thing"... Pun? For sure, you might feel something, but I doubt it will be anything but the feeling to find a commode chair ASAP and grab the for railings...

Don't let the bad rating deter you from seeing this film. I didn't have high expectations for this film but it turned out to be very good. It is a VERY depressing and disturbing film and really made my blood boil (especially the rape scene.) It reveals the grisly and nasty depravity that exists on the streets of London (mainly in the 'pleb'ian class.) I really hope that circumstances aren't as bad as depicted because it makes Jane and Finch look like Mr. Rogers neighbourhood. I remember the stories my teachers told us when they taught in England. They told horror stories of kids who were unfathomably violent and grotesque. England and Canada have very different cultures in some ways. I don't believe all of England is like this, probably big cities and whatnot. The level of depravity demonstrated in this film is very disturbing. Craftful way of arranging the sequences. Excellent acting. Overall, it makes you think about a lot of things, which is a very good thing.

This whole film just impressed me so much. Made for a reported £1.5 million pounds which to put into perspective is about a quarter of a single episode of Game of Thrones. this 80 odd minute film seems far more epic than Im sure it is. Extremely well directed by Simon Phillips (who co starred with Nick Nevern in Rise and Fall of a White Collar Hooligan). Simon has chosen this film to begin what I hope it a long directing career. This is one hell of a debut. There are some very powerful sequences in this film, the storyline is tight and the acting and basically the entire production is spot on. Loved this film and cant wait to see more roles from Nick Nevern and more directing gigs from Simon Phillips.
