I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
A film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
as soon as the doctor is murder the town would be full of police...are there only a few folks... no one after the thugs.... it is a thriller but not worth watching... good for you who liked it Everyone gets killed...and if she only had one customer a day she would close....even a slow place needs more then one employee.. oh and let rent room to the killers... this is s stupid movie...typical plot....good guys helps bad guys and everyone gets killed....don't waste your time watching this movie..I wasted my time writing this review...go what the High Serra with Humphrey Bogart...it is thriller that makes sense. This movie is very predictable....and the story is very shallow....the town only has ten people.....I rate it a two....out of ten
"When Strangers Appear" (2001) is just the sort of film I'm a sucker for. It's a tense, neo-Hitchcockian thriller with a crisp, clean visual style, a forceful sense of place, several great suspense sequences, very effective camera work, and one hell of a paranoid mood. The story concerns a young woman who for 48 hours becomes entangled in a mysterious manhunt when her path crosses with the wrong people on the Oregon coast. Or, as I really like to tell folks, it's about a waitress being chased by diabolical surfers. The film was written and directed by New Zealand director Scott Reynolds. For me his first film, "The Ugly," was close to unwatchable, but then he released "Heaven," which showed a lot of promise. (And with any luck he'll break his 6-year dry spell and bring us something else soon.) Radha Mitchell and Josh Lucas are both very, very good in "When Strangers Appear," as is Kevin Anderson in his supporting role. The film has a few flaws, however. This includes a few too-self-conscious moments and the casting of Barry Watson as Jack, the man on the run. Still, the film is a must-see for fans of tense contemporary thrillers that lie in the shadow of Hitch, or for anyone who's up for the sort of gripping, old-fashioned good time provided by films like "Red Rock West," "Nick of Time," and "Breakdown."
Am I the only one that disliked this? I found myself rooting for the villains. For surely Radha Mitchell was absolutely the worst actress ever. Her screaming, over acting and generally annoying presence made me want the three guys to do her in. No such luck. She survives. I didn't even find her that attractive. With acting talent that maybe goes to a 2 level, she ruined this film for me. Scott Mitchell who wrote and directed this must have been in cloud nine when he cast her, as everybody else wasn't that bad. I liked Josh Lucas and Barry Watson and would like to see more of these guys in a more likable movie. Glad this was on LMN TV as I didn't have to pay for it. If I did, I'd ask for my money back. What kind of a name is Radha anyway?
I caught this movie on the late movie. Never heard of this movie, I would guess it was a flop in theaters. But I really liked it overall, it may be a tired idea of small towns in the middle of nowhere, with a limited amount of charters, but it still stood up as a good over all film. If you're not into Hollywood "hero saves the day" cookie cutter type movies, this might be for you.I'm not going to give out what I saw, there are tons of spoilers, but I thought Volvo wagons where driven by environmentalists or doctors, not killers? Also, if this was modern time (2001), when dose a 1971 Dodge Polara become a squad car?
