In this episode, Maria meets two families where mum has died and dad has been left to try and deal with teenagers who are off the rails. Phil Frances is 18 and has had 22 sexual partners, but his Dad isn’t just worried about the numbers he’s also at a loss to comprehend that they are all men, while 16-year-old Sinead Walker is turning her back on her dad and hitting the sack with a 21-year-boyfriend.
This programme introduces the Hicks family from Chesham and the Garrattley family from Manchester. 16-year-old Matthew Hicks' parents are terrified his endless stream of one night stands is going to see him becoming a father before he gets out of his teens. And things are so bad in the Garrattley household that 16-year-old Becky’s dad has already thrown one boyfriend out of the house. Can Maria’s methods solve these family’s problems? The theory is that the more open people are, the less there is to hide and worry about. Which doesn’t mean it’s going to be any less awkward when Maria makes Matthew buy condoms with his dad, or Becky show her parents all the sex positions she knows with the use of toy dolls.
