Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.

It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.

Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.

Very slow, boring movie. Not well written at all. There were two saving graces for the movie. One that it finally picked up about the middle of the movie. Secondly, the acting was fairly good. But taking about lack of creativity. This writer must have never written anything before. I don't mean to sound so critical but I agree with another poster here. It was one of the worst movies I've seen. What surprised me most about the movie is that it was not rated, which I thought mean decent. It wasn't a decent movie that a family could watch. There were at least 6 F words and lots of other profanity. There were frontal shots of women stripped to the waste. That may be OK for the bulk of the population but it wasn't what I expected for a non rated movie. Do not waste your time on this slow, boring, poorly written movie.

I pushed the player's eject button after 20 minutes, which seemed like 40 minutes of my life. Within the movie's first few minutes I noted to my wife that the director had his camera linger too long on scenes and speculated that we possibly may be in for a tedious experience from a too self-involved filmmaker. Random thoughts along the way: Early on we had our attention diverted from the story by trying to visually learn who the ex was and who the sister was; a casting fault occasionally made by a director without a lot of experience. A major ongoing problem was the dullard character Doug; it's very, very difficult to stay interested in a banal character. A Sherlock Holmes 'book'? Did the writer mean a compilation of the short novellas and short stories? And now, the scene that had me throw in the towel: Doug and Carlos return to the "motel" room (the characters used 'motel' and 'hotel' interchangeably) that had been occupied by the missing Rachel and they discover that the door, previously opened, is now locked and the room is ablaze with light. What would you do in this situation? Well, of course, you'd knock on the door to see if she had returned. But not these two dopes, they instead do something illogical and thereby inexorably advance the story/plot.

Sometimes I get films from Netflix and I have no idea where I got the inspiration (or lack of) to rent the film. My renting "Cold Weather" (what's the title supposed to signify?) must have been inspired by the NY Times reviewer Manohla Dargis whose opinions I've come to trust. Well I think I have to reevaluate my Dargis trust factor. There are several other "professional" reviewers who also liked this film but for the life of me I cannot understand why.I like independent films but "Cold Weather" left me cold. It was like the Hardy Boys meet Portlandia without the comedy but with unintended laughs at just how amateurish this film is. I have a great tolerance for slow moving thoughtful films and with films that leave you hanging at the end but the four main actors seemed without talent and I got tired of scene after scene of sleeping actors and telephones ringing. If this film is your cup of tea I do not mean to offend but I will stay away from Aaron Katz films in the future.

This movie really makes it. It grips you to the characters and especially to the story, nevertheless the end is unsatisfying... and I literally mean unsatisfying. The story is gut, the character feel so real, and the movie itself is filled with fantastic suspense and many laughing moments This film is like a detective story. First we are introduced to Doug, a drop out of high school with studies in forensic science. He is a fan of Detective stories and especially of Sherlock Holmes. He gots a job in an ice factory and there he meets Carlos. Doug borrows Carlos a Sherlock Holmes book and he also starts to like detective stories. One day Doug's ex-girlfriend visits Oregon and Carlos goes out with her. She suddenly disappears and Carlos. Becomes worried about her. Both, Doug and Carlos get int the adventure of finding her.I saw the film in the Filmfest of Munich and after the film was over, the audience had the chance to make questions to the director. Mr. Aaron Katz told us that he wanted to write a story that dealed about the brother and sister relations, which according to him wasn't a very used theme and that most of the times that this theme was used were stories of rivalry. If there is something that you will like about the movie is the scenes of Doug with her sister. Doug uses her car, makes her steal a book from the library, asks her to drive him to every he wants, etc. He also added that the end was like that because he wanted to deliver the message that everything was solved and that the characters would continue their lives.I recommend the film, even though the ending is not what many people would like, this film rocks. This is the type of film sticks you the feeling of: "I wanna know more, I WANNA KNOW MORE!"
