Against his father Odin's will, The Mighty Thor - a powerful but arrogant warrior god - recklessly reignites an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Poor story development, very predictable, No real plot behind the pretentious effects. Very lousy love story between Jane and Thor. I expected more from a Marvel production but I was very disappointed.
When I heard that there was going to be a Thor movie, it got me curious. I love Norse mythology and all the gods and demigods and other characters from those aforementioned legends and I had only heard about Thor as a comic book, but it was cool. Anthony Hopkins as the leader of Asgard; Odin himself. One of my favorite Norse gods. Some of the characters were a little hard to follow but this was the first time in a long while I had seen Rene Russo, who played Odin's wife Frigg. She did very well. Lots of action and Loki, the mischief-maker of Asgard himself, steals the show. I'd never even heard of Tom Hiddleston until this movie, but he seems very cool. If you're looking for a movie to watch before tackling the Avengers saga, start here, along with Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, and the others. Tell them I sent you.
As far as I was concerned, Thor was one of the less well-received MCU movies. Little did I know, this movie is actually quite enjoyable. Yes, the second one is a different story, but this is a pretty stellar superhero movie. Natalie Portman and Kat Dennings have great chemistry and really make the movie better. Chris Hemsworth isn't my favourite actor but he does do a pretty good job in his role. The real show-stealer, though, is Tom Hiddleston. He is absolutely perfect in his role as Loki and really makes the movie better than it actually is. The humour and action is enough to solidify itself as a good superhero movie without quite reaching Iron Man status. Rating: 7.5/10
I have been a huge fan of marvel films since my childhood despite the fact that i have never read the comics and have kept track of the mcu since it started. All of their films have been extremely entertaining though some have more faults than others. However, of the mcu's first five films, thor is my second favourite behind the first iron man movie. Positives: Good cast, particularly Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston Excellent visual effects Some good humour A positive message of redemption and humility in the story. Negatives: Introduction of Hawkeye was lacking as he only appears for a couple of minutes in the film. Earth- based storyline lacks in scope and develpopment in contrast to the asgard-based storyline How can thor redeem himself in just one day?
