When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.

This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.

When I started watching the film, a sudden of weirdly arranged shots passed, without any context at all. That's when I thought: "Another non-sense experimental film which no one in the audience can understand, but the author". I was wrong, extremely wrong. Persona is a cinematic masterpiece that dwells on philosophical themes which are portrayed in the relationship between two individuals that are sent to an isolated place. Although one of them -Elisabet- barely speaks, her facial expressions on different occasions does prove that an opinion, story, emotion can be tell without a single word coming out of the mouth. On the other side, there's Alma, a girl whose monologues treat nihilism, abortion, lesbianism, imposed maternity, guilt, insanity, schizophrenia trough not only an a insanely well written and poetic script, but a magnificent direction...Ingmar Bergman frequent use of sunlight for a Rembrandt effect makes every shot a unique story and will characterize him as the genius he is frequently said to be. Accompanied by the astonishing performance of Bibi Andersson, the movie grants you a shocking ride over the human condition, which will leave you thinking for a long time. It's a visually stunning experience that any cinema lover won't easily forget. 10/10

A nurse is put in charge of a mute actress and finds that their personas are melding together. Dull, Boring and just a mess of different kiss put together alongside just erotic scenes that aren't even enough hot to count them makes 'Persona' another just dull and horrible film that is just weird and not in a good way as you might think or expected and i don't get the high ratings it even has but then again IMDb was always kind of confusing with it's ratings and the way movies like this end up in lists that shouldn't be in or belong in general. The movie starts out with a weird scene that seems to be completely unrelated to the actual movie. It'll make more sense once you identify the real premise of the movie. What I found really interesting about the movie was the fact that there was basically no film score (with the sole exception of the opening and ending scene; they used aleatoric atonal music for those scenes which is quite avant-garde). It worked pretty well with the psychologically intense ambiance of the movie. A film score would've diverted attention away from the scenes in which the tension between the two protagonists manifested itself. Another thing that is worth mentioning is the almost dreamy nature of the movie. It seems very bizarre and surreal at times. Don't be fooled however. This was done deliberately. The movie is trying to tell you something. Which is ultimately the reason why this movie won't appeal to everybody. Unless you decipher its true meaning it'll appear to be quite nonsensical in nature, I assure you. As far as execution is concerned this movie is in a class of its own. I've rarely seen such a well-executed movie about such a complex topic. Exploring the subtleties of human psychology in a visual way without being too artsy fartsy.p.s. When I saw the movie for the first time I was quite confused. I didn't quite get it because I took it literally. After some research however I learned that this movie is actually a very clever metaphor and things started to make a whole lot more sense all the sudden. Since I don't want to spoil the movie I'll say this much: the title of the movie is really fitting because it's a clue as to what is actually happening in the movie. Just not in the "physical" sense. All of this happens in the protagonists head. Maybe this'll help you to figure it out.

Ingmar Bergman made the film possibly most associated with his name, Persona, in 1966. The story explores a woman's life and awakening as her personality begins to merge with another woman. Starring Bibi Andersson and Liv Ullmann, Persona opens with disjointed images of camera equipment, animal slaughter, and a boy in a hospital bed next to corpses, which pulls the audience in immediately. Initially, the audience has no idea what's going on, which is precisely my kind of film. The film seemed to have touches of the emerging French New Wave, which was also fun for me, as that is my favorite film genre. Having seen Mulholland Drive before Persona, I couldn't help but see the many similarities the two films share. An experimental romp with Ingmar Bergman, Persona is undoubtedly one of Bergman's most well-known films and it is easy to see why.
