I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

This film definitely had some improvements on the first one. I really liked how Rodrick was further developed, as I found him to be one of the most likable characters from the original. His personality is quirky and outlandish, but believable. While I understand Greg's role as a middle schooler, which is full of awkward drama, his character becomes unlikable as he continually whines and shows himself to be a bad friend to his peers. The parents are completely stereotyped as the stupid dad and the mom who refuses to deal with reality until an extreme circumstances rise. This really makes them poor role models for the boys, who ultimately grow as characters from learning how to appreciate each other. As a middle school teacher, I was disappointed with the representation of the teacher in the film. While I do understand that some teachers do judge younger siblings based on their older siblings, it is unfair to assume this is the norm.I do think the film does appropriately emphasize the awkwardness of middle school, though it is overly dramatized.I rate this film 4/10

Okay so the first one in this franchise is about a boy dealing with middle school life in a very stereotypical manner. But the nostalgia factor is what made that movie watchable and for kids, it's something they can relate with. And when a movie has character you can relate with you feel like your watching yourself sometimes or the thought of similar background makes the movie more immerse. And that might be it for this movie as well if you have older or even younger sibling. Cause this one deals more with the relationship between siblings than the actual middle school life. Older siblings have this mentality that they can mess and pick on you but others can't kinda deal. And you can sorta see the bond between them like any other family. Anyways this one also deals with Greg Heffley falling for a girl in the same class why dealing with his brother that constantly bully or pick on him. This is a kid friendly movie that kids and adults can enjoy, kids because they can currently relate with while adults can probably look back on their childhood while watching this.6.5/10

Tanks to the team to have accomplished these films of comedies. I saw two Diary of a wimpy kid. For me, it are of very good films. Books are remarkably adapted well. All actors did good in films. To us in France, they exist not in Blu-ray and DVD is devoid of Making-of. It is regrettable. With delay, good birthday in Zachary Gordon for these 14 years. And i thank both film directors Thor Freudenthal and David Bowers for these two big comedies. They brought us a lot of joy, to laugh and friendship who give desire to go in California to congratulate you. Zachary Gordon is unique in this role, a true star of cinema. Good chance for its future, he must continue making laugh us because the world needs to laugh.
